my account was hacked into yesterday. the person changed my email so i could no longer access it. I looked online and saw that many people have been hacked in the past 36 hours and its always through Amazon.de and the email address always ends with @mail.ru
It is super frustrating because I rely on amazon so much and but amazon's investigation team told me that while they investigate all the accounts that have been hacked, the accounts must be deactivated.
I'm also terrified of being a victim of identity theft, i am in the process of reordering new cards and changing passwords.
if you use amazon i highly recommend changing your log in to the 2 step verification process. to avoid this happening to you

@Mrsbells: If you used your Amazon password for anything else you should change all those other passwords too.

I saw several people post on my Facebook feed that the same thing happened to them. Hopefully they can figure out what's going on and stop it.

@Miss Ariel: yeah its really scary the number of people that have reported it already. and I am sure there are more people who havent noticed yet. I was told they usually target people with low activity but in my case I have a lot action on my account and always read the notifications so I caught it immediately

Happened to me about a month ago. It was really frustrating.

I've gotten emails twice now sending me verification codes, or something along those lines, to get into my account. The thing was I wasn't trying to get into my account when that happened and immediately deleted the emails. Wonder if it's the same hackers?

I turned on the 2-step verification, and also downloaded Authenticator through LastPass which helps with the 2-step verifications. That's really scary! Thanks for the heads-up!

I can't thank you enough for this!! I set up 2-factor right after reading your post (I have it on other accounts but didn't know Amazon offered it). This morning, at 1:15 am I got a text with a login code....I was asleep and definitely not trying to log in to amazon.
I'm 100% confident that having 2-step enabled just saved me from overnight fraud. THANK YOU!!!
