Help! My 3 month old, 19 lb baby is pretty snug in her bumbo seat and I fear we won't be able to use it for long. I already have trouble getting her thighs in lol. Is there anything similar but with bigger leg holes we can try? I would like something portable with a tray so she can have toys and sit up while we play with her big sister.

Hahah, yes I had this issue with my first two babies!
This time around we went with the Ingenuity seat. If the foam insert piece is too tight, you can take that out and use it even longer with just the plastic shell. It also comes with the tray that stores underneath. Ive been really impressed.

Also, we are using this more as a high chair type seat than a play seat. She's 6 months now.

We never used a bumbo seat but we loved our fisher price seat that @MrsSCB mentioned! My (then) almost two year old even fit in it. Granted she got stuck (she climbed in when I was out of the room) but she fit...haha.

We have the Mamas and Papas one. I used it a lot with my DS and plan to use it with number 2. I read about the issue with the Bumbo and chunky thighs, so I went with this one because you can remove the inner part. I also thought the inner part had more room for legs. It is extremely sturdy...the base is way bigger than the Bumbo and I never worried that it would tip over, even if my son leaned over in it. They also make a little tray toy for this seat. My son really liked the tray toy. It looks like TRU has the seat and tray combo on sale right now! That price is basically a free tray.

We have the mamas and papas too but w/o the tray toy. And we got it for $80 so that is a great price. And both our kiddos have very chubby thighs but we were still able to use it with the padded insert just fine.
Eta Dd wasn't able to use the fisher price either me up. The leg holes were wayyy too small for her chubby thighs.

Mine didn't fit either. We just propped them on a boppy. They sat early though, around four months so it wasn't a problem for long.

Skip it! DD was super uncomfortable in the Bumbo and we ditched it pretty quickly. Babies don't actually need any device to help them sit up, they learn just fine through their own trial and error.

@caterw: Yep same here with my 20lb almost 4 month old......I am looking into the fisher price seat I had the lion one for DD and sold it (insert face palm) I am looking for a used one

@PawPrints: She just HATES laying down. She is a very alert little critter and wants to be able to see whatever her sister is doing. Unfortunately my options are hold her or put her in a seat.

@caterw: If that's the case then my bet is you have a couple of weeks tops before she figures out how to sit up on her own. Motivation!

@caterw: my DD was the same way. She wanted to be held in a sitting position looking out starting at 6 weeks old. She was also chubby. The Fisher Price sit me up chair was wonderful for us. She loved it.

Both my kids had super chunky legs and didn't fit in the Bumbo. We ended up propping them both using double Boppys.

My very interested almost 5 month old spends a lot of time in the baby bjorn bouncy seat. But it's starting to loose it's appeal.
Generally I am not interested in helping him sit before he is able, but I know he would LOVE it and it would get me some time to do stuff. I was thinking about how his chunky legs might not fit.
All that said, he is a tummy time champ because he can watch his big brother that way. The kid is happy on his tummy for 10-15 minutes sometimes. I shouldn't cave to the seat and let him work for it.

Lol my 3 year old just discovered the Bumbo in our basement and sits in it all the time now. I keep worrying she is going to get stuck!

I had the fisher price one for DD1 too instead of bumbo.... I was afraid that she'd grow out of the bumbo too quickly too.

We take the soft plastic insert out and she fits great in it. Its best now, though, since she can actually sit up on her own. She loves the tray it comes with and we have a Sassy toy wheel thing with a suction cup.
