All M names, especially for boys. Our last name starts with M and I'm not a fan of the whole M&M thing lol

@78h2o: uh-NEYE-uh It was common where I taught, but I've never heard it elsewhere.

i LOVE Maeve but DH's name is Dave... probably can't do the rhyming
We LOVE Caroline but with our last name and various reasons, we decided not to use it.
We really liked Alice but DH's sister goes by Ali. Too close.
We were pretty heartbroken about all of those!!!
Reid is my favourite boy name but for some reason my husband is completely anti it we're having a girl though so it's a non issue for a while! haha.

Love this thread!
Sophie and Henry - my dream names for babies forever and ever. Of course my in-laws have a beloved dog named Sophie, and there's a family member on their side named Henry who's a really terrible person. So my dream names went out the window.
Other ones:
Molly - wasted the name on my cat!
Kelly - The middle name we knew we were using after my grandma started with a K and our last name starts with a K, so her initials would have been a big problem. If we have another girl this one's still on the table (with a different middle initial!)

@Anya: Cute idea for a thread! I have loved loved loved Felicity forever but DW said no.

Ohhh I have lots of names I love but can't use!
DH vetoed: Pearl, Sarabeth, Ruby, Mae, June, Eloise, Isla for girls, Micah, Owen, and Simon for boys (though, I might re-suggest some of these for LO #2!)
Too close to other people/LOs we know: Norah, Alice, Hazel, Benjamin, Asher, Noah. Though to be fair, one of my close friends had a Rose a few months before LO was born and we didn't change her name (Rosalie), so maybe some of these would still be on the table when push comes to shove...
We already used Willamina (nn Willa) and Finnegan (nn Finny) for our dogs, so those are out! Lucy is also out for similar reasons

@nana87: I love the name Simon! My DH vetoed too. He said it reminded him of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
pomegranate / 3858 posts
Jude for a boy - it just doesn't work with our last name (starts with a B, so the "d" gets lost.) I'm not as in love with Judah, which would work.
pomegranate / 3643 posts
James - doesn't fit with our last name
Crispin - DH thinks it's too out there
Molly - DH's ex girlfriend. Grrr. I'm fine with it but he vetoed!

@jedeve: Yeah, we can't use Vivian/Vivianne because of my DH's ex. Too bad, I think Viv or Vi would be so cute on a little one.
clementine / 880 posts
Claire and Caroline are close friends names, so i can't use those
Viola is a family name, but i worry with Violet being so popular it would be confusing
Vivian was our top choice until i realized there are two spellings and it's also becoming common
Edie is too nick-namey and i don't like Edith as much (but maybe could be convinced, DH couldn't)
Wren - my sister plans to use this name, don't want to steal it
and anything common (charlotte, elinore, evelyn, etc)
honeydew / 7622 posts
Dutch- my dogs name, would have been perfect for a boy.
Marloe- the last name of a unpopular former work associate of my family
Leila- used
Brixton- my nephews name, it was never on my list but I love it.
Sterling- a family name that I would love for a boy or girl- M nixed it.

@78h2o: @Charm54: If this baby is a girl, I'm about 90% sure she'll be Maeve. I love it but DH isn't fully on board yet. However, he basically named DS so I get a lot more pull on this one.
@loki: If it makes you feel better, I feel like mine, DH's , and DS's names all sort of rhyme. They all end with "an".
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Ra: I think he has bad taste in girl names I love ALL of those!
Girls:
Aurora
Sadie
Lola (sounds terrible with our last name!)
Boys:
DH vetoed everything except our LO's name. Don't know what we'll do if we ever have another boy. I shall call him "Nameless".

@MUI831: i feel like one rhyming sound isn't that bad... but the whole name! maeve & dave! i feel like introducing ourselves as a family would be crazy haha. i wish i could get over it thought because i think it's so beautiful dh agrees with me too
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Thought of some more:
Sutton & Sawyer for girls - my cousins each have sons with this name
Stella - we have a niece Ella
Theodore - DH vetoed
papaya / 10343 posts
I love Mae (hence username!) but dh did not and it sounds weird with our last name anyways. I also love Eve but dh said he couldn't decide if it sounded too religious or too stripper-y, but either way he vetoed lol
clementine / 912 posts
@Mae: I love that your DH was sure if Eve would make her a saint or a stripper. LOL.

Such a fun post! I've added a few to my list after reading through this! Mine are Eloise (DH's drug-addict grandmother was Louise. BOOO) and Amelie (my niece is Amelia--too close).

@loki: My dad's name is Jim and mine is Kim but it never really bothered me. Only when my mom yelled for one us and we couldn't figure out which person she was asking for.

@loki: Caroline is the only girl name we've agreed on so far!! My DH is insanely picky!
pear / 1787 posts
@simplyfelicity: haha that's so funny, my husband said the other day the number one deterrent for him is that he would never know which one of them i was calling! i'll have to tell him it didn't bother you at all.
@Mrs. Sunshine: caroline is stuuuuuuunning, i wish we could use it!!! use it for me!

papaya / 10560 posts
Holden-sounds horrible with our last name
Hattie-loved the old world charm of it and also my great grandmas name, but also MIL mother name, so nope!
pear / 1503 posts
I love Alexis, Alexandria, Ariana, Adriana for girls... lots of "A" names, lol! I also like the name Darcy, and may push for it for next time, if we have a girl. The problem with the first two is that my wretched cousin (1 out of 35 first cousins) and his even more wretched wife just named their little girl Lexi, so it's a little close. Of course, we never see them, so it's not a big deal for me, but our moms are close and live in the same town, so it might get confusing.
Thankfully, girl names are not going to be an issue for awhile as we're having a boy. So this list is going to be very helpful. I do really like the name Aidan, but I think my husband may veto it since I once, very briefly, dated an Aidan. Also, an old gf of his always compared him to Aidan from SATC, and then cheated on him just as Carrie did. But honestly, both were 8 and 10 years ago, respectively.
