Hi hi everyone! It's another !!!
She was very resilient after the tech got her gender and kept her feet above her head so I have another ultrasound next week to catch the spine and kidneys. After an hour of being poked, I'm exhausted lol
Everything else was great!

@Radish: I know! I started to think boy because of the kicks but where she is, it'd be impossible for me not to feel everything according to my doctor.
My next appointment is Sept. 22!

@pmrlady: yesterday I was trying to work on a boring task. I kept switching to read about baby carriers. Much more engaging!
@namaste: a girl! Congrats!!
I love seeing our list filling out and it makes me feel like time is really moving quickly.
@MrsHansen82: congrats on the new place! Finding rentals is tough. Good luck with the move.
@KeepCalmCarrie: I've only gained a few pounds at this point as well, but I feel like that is quickly changing! I like the chicken sandwich treat though. The baby needs it!

Anyone considering a doula?
I am. I like the idea of having someone to help out, and my husband, bless his heart, is a squeamish guy. I don't want to worry that my main person is going to hit the floor. I've found a great one who is actually my prenatal yoga teacher! She will take me on, but has another client close to my due date, so if we work together, she'll have to schedule a back-up doula.

@Happygal: Are you going to try to labor without drugs? Last time I got my epidural quickly so I needed very little support for pain management and when it came time to push I had a whole team of nurses/doctors, so I don't anticipate needing any additional support. My husband did not do well when I was getting the epidural last time, hopefully he does better this time.

@Happygal: I'm seeing midwives with the hope of a med-free birth, so we'll definitely be looking into a doula. I'm glad you said this, actually--I need to start meeting with some folks!

@Happygal: The whole birthing thing here is set up a little differently so we don't even have doulas in the same sense as you know them. Did you know that in Germany every birth (except for homebirths, side of the road births etc.) has to be attended by a midwife but not necessarily a doctor? So even in a hospital there will always be a midwife present and working with you. The dr. only comes in when birth is imminent or intervention is needed. There are some regions where you can choose your midwife and she will come to the hospital when it's time. Where we live that's rather the exception though so one just goes with the hospital's staff midwives.

I had a doula with my first. It was OK. My labor was so long that she actually started to bug me. I felt like I had to keep her entertained, because start to finish I was in labor for 2.5 days. Even though I wanted med free I had every intervention possible and a c-section. I kinda feel like I could have spent that $900 better.

@namaste: Congrats!
@Happygal: This is our LO #2 and we did not have a doula for LO #1 so we are not considering it for this one either. But I have heard good things from folks who did have one! Good luck with the search.

@sorrycharlie: Yay! Congrats!
@Happygal: I think it depends on your hospital. My hospital is very into vaginal births and will only do c-sections if there is no other way, so almost everyone there that I know that has the same coverage had a vaginal birth unless their baby was head up or other really rare reasons.
My friend knew her hospital was more prone to c-sections and so she got one and she is the only one she knows with the same coverage that has a vaginal birth. I can't go into stories about the friends that where in that hospital and their birth stories but they were horrible.
I would definitely talk to women with your coverage that gave birth and find out what their birth was like and talk to many of them because you might talk to someone that had a rare birth experience.

@Radish: Congratulations on a girl!!!
My DH didn't do too well with my epidural either. At that point, I had been laboring for several hours on pitocin without drugs, so I was pretty unconcerned about the needles. But DH's eyes got SO wide. Afterwards, he whisper-yelled, "They stuck you with a HARPOON!!" I had to laugh!
(And ladies who have never had an epidural and may want one...it's not a harpoon. And believe me, if you want one, you don't care about the teensy needle they use to numb you up.)

@Happygal: I loved having a doula for my first. we did go med-free and I think that makes a big difference in how much support you need. I also think it makes a HUGE difference how well you click with them, I wouldn't want just anybody. ours came to our apt while I labored at home, was very helpful when my water broke and we went to the hospital and I was panicking, and then was just a nice support for my husband through all night of labor and transition (by the time I was pushing I didn't really need her anymore). maybe TMI but I also spent time laboring in the bathroom and was soooo much more comfortable having her there than my husband and didn't want to be alone. he also says it was 100% worth it for us and wants to do it again. now I just need to find someone good since we moved!
I think like everything with birth you are gambling and just trying to set up the situation you want . . . knowing you may not get it. I know it's easy for me to say it was worth it because we did get the birth we wanted.
