So I want to cloth diaper from birth and have been reading and watching a ton of things online. It's all very overwhelming but I THINK I want to try prefolds with covers for the newborn stage before going to pockets after (maybe?). Just wondered what you used for the newborn stage? It seems expensive to buy newborn AIOs that won't be used for long... If i do go for prefolds, do I still need a few AIOs for nighttime? Thanks x

So I didn't start CD until 5 weeks because I was way too overwhelmed with life before that.. but at 5 weeks and 10 lb BG freetimes and alva pocket diapers fit her just fine. And I actually think that they would've fit fine at birth when she was 8 lb.
We don't CD at night though, because she wakes up and cries when she pees (which she doesn't do in disposables. So-- disposables at night, and CD all day).

My baby hated prefolds as a newborn. She cried every time she peed in them. Have you thought about a newborn cloth diaper rental?
@Mae: We didn't start CD at night until she was seven months old. She doesn't wake up when she pees in her AppleCheeks or her Rumparooz, but every time she pees in the BG she wakes up. The other two keep her skin dryer.

We started with BG newborns. I loved them, we then transitioned to AIO BG's so it was basically a cohesive system

I liked prefolds, snappis and covers. We had a few BG newborns but they were too small within weeks.

I hated prefolds... They make your lo's skin wet. I'd do an aio.

we did a rental with BG NB AIOs as well as using disposables given to us. i didn't like the NB AIOs. we started using our BG 4.0s at 4 weeks.
next time i'm just going to use disposables until she fits our 4.0s. it wasn't worth the money for me.

I used prefold, snappis, and covers after the first week. I really liked the rumparooz covers with velcro. Prefolds worked great for us, although I did use disposables at night.

I bought a ton of prefolds and fitteds, only to learn that the prefolds get totally soaked. So I ended up buying BG newborn AIOs. At 10 lbs and 7 weeks now I'm not sure he'd fit into the 4.0s and Freetimes yet!

@Mae: We used a fleece liner to keep the moisture away from his skin. I also got stay-dry liners from GMD but they were too big for the NB diapers!

Hmmm, thanks for the replies. I'm even more confused now!!! I guess it will be a case of trial and error! At least prefolds are quite reasonable. I have just bought some newborn fitteds after researching a LOT! Hopefully a mix will be ok. More research needed I think!

We did a diaper service with prefolds from 3 weeks to 6 months. Thirsties duo wrap snap and Bummis covers.

I really liked prefolds with covers for the newborn stage! They go through so many diapers during those days that it ended up working well for us because they were reasonably priced and super easy to wash and dry. A mix is a great idea because it's hard to know what you will end up liking best and you can always sell what doesn't work.
