I want to buy myself some nice sandals for the summer. I'm looking for a good quality pair, that looks classic (brown or grey leather, or something similar). No heel. A pair that I can wear everyday.
Any suggestions?

@lawbee11: Thanks! I have a GC to Zappos that I really want to use, and they don't carry Rainbows, apparently

@allison: Bummer! Do they have Reef sandals? I've heard good things about those, too (though I don't own a pair).

Reefs are great! They have arch support too. I'm eyeballing se frye sandals for nice sandals though

I just found these. Anybody have any Nine West sandals and can vouch for comfortability?

@blackbird: I had to stop looking at the Fryes because of $$$. But there were several CUTE pairs! Of course.

@allison: Birkenstocks for everyday, and a pair of gentle souls sandals for nicer places/ dinner out, etc. Neither is particularly cheap, but worth the investment. And check 6pm!

I can't do flip flops for very long

@Silva: Ahhh I've been looking at those exact Birkenstocks! Someone is discouraging me from getting them, though, stating the soles get stinky from absorbing all your foot sweat. What say you?
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@allison: I have net really noticed that problem.....but I don't live in a super hot climate? And I'm kind of dirty? Just kidding.....mostly.
I love Birkenstocks. You do have to be careful about breaking them in. Wear them for an hour or two the first couple days, just around your house and slowly build up from there. They form to your foot but you can get sore if you wear them a lot out of the box. I also notice the first time I pull them out for th season my leg muscles can get a little tired.
But they are so comfy!

I have a pair by Seychelles that are pretty comfortable. The leather is soft and the foot is padded but no real arch support. Most sandals, including those Nine West ones, seem to have no padding at all.
I only wear Reef flip flops and love them, but they are still flip flips, so very casual. I buy a new pair of the Ginger every year and wear them to the ground.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, that's my only concern with the Nine West ones is the sole. I love the price, though. I want something a little nicer-looking than just flip flops, I think.
@Silva: I'm just having a hard time pulling the trigger on a $120 pair of sandals. I might do it... can't decide! Thanks for your input though.

@allison: Birkenstocks hurt my feet but I love my Mephistos. I couldn't believe how much I was spending, but they will fix any issue including replacing the sole of the sandals for life or something crazy like that!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@allison: I know, they are pricey. I've got bad feet from running, Waiting tables, and my grandma's genes....so it's either $$$$ shoes or crippling foot pain. If you have better feet than me you can probably find something cheaper but still comfy!

Nine West are not comfortable on my feet.
I adore my mephisto sandals, I found them at a warehouse clearance sale, I think I paid $80.

@Espion: Second on the Danskos. Mine have a little bit of a wedge heel, but its actually more comfortable to me than a flat shoe, superior support, and it has a suede-y footbed that never makes my foot feel sweaty and its cushioned! I have a black pair that I pretty much wear 6-8 months a year (in CA).

Also have 2 pairs of these that I love.

Nine West anything is not comfortable for me anymore. Also, the last 2 pairs of Nine West shoes I've purchased (everyday heels for work) have fallen apart after a few months.
My Seychelles are pretty comfortable, as flat sandals go.

I have a favorite pair of Jessica Simpson sandals that I bought on clearance years ago. I haven't been too kind to them but they still wear great, and look cute. The leather straps are super soft. I've gotten them wet and constantly throw them on and kick them off -- no bad wear and tear to be seen. They're simple and cute, similar style to these:

I can tell you I like mine so much that I'll be getting her shoes again.

I had some Clark sandals that were really great, and I have super sensitive feet.
I also love Birkenstocks! Gizeh and yara.

Ah! I stopped getting notifications for this thread, apparently. Thanks, ladies, for your suggestions!
Mephisto is out of my price range, along with Frye. And I really want something flat. I will check out these other ones, though!

What about Chaco? I have a couple of the regular sport sandals, but hate the heavy footbed. These look like they might be lighter?

Third vote for Danskos, soooo comfy and they look nice. Otherwise I live in Chacos and Tevas (very outdoorsy)
bananas / 9118 posts
@allison: all of my Chacos are very heavy, not sure about those though, mine are their traditional strappy hiking sandals.

I have some clarks that I wear with everything in summer (pants, shorts, dresses). So comfy! Will see if I can find something similar to post here!

I LOVE Birkenstock Gizehs, those are always my go-to. I also recently bought these from target and really like them: http://m.target.com/p/women-s-sam-libby-kamilla-sandals/-/A-14915171 I got them in the fawn color.
Eta: I've never noticed my Birkenstocks smelling and I live in Texas (so very hot climate). But my feet don't sweat much anyway.

@allison: birkenstocks! do it! bite the bullet! they're heaven for your soles i have been a disgusting hippie who waded through dirty rivers in mine and abused the crap out of them in the past, they never smelled. they don't absorb much, they get like shiny and smooth in the footbed eventually. i wouldn't suggest getting them gross like i have, but they are solid! the nine west ones are a little less $$ & very cute, but chances are you'll get maybe two seasons out of them. my birks have all lasted me 5 years or more with near daily, outdoor, wear during warm weather. i prefer the regular sole to the 'soft' version they've come out with, but i'm used to breaking them in & i like the firm support, and i like suede for the straps, but that's a personal preference, the synthetic plastic feeling ones i really don't find to be comfortable though. amazon has them for pretty reasonable and if you have an outlet near you they usually have great deals (they also sometimes have neat styles i haven't seen before, once i got this amazing pair of leopard pony skin mary jane ones, they were amazing!)

@mrs. bird: so glad there is another Birkenstock wearing dirty hippie in these parts.

@Silva, @mrs. bird: Add me to the legion of dirty hippie Birkenstock-wearers!
I've got my "dressy" Birks (Gizeh sandals), and then my casual, around the house and everywhere else summer sandals (Floridas with the three straps). Clearly I'm way too crunchy.
I love everything about them, especially the fact that I can walk around all day and not hurt!
pear / 1895 posts
@Silva: @mrs. bird: @Ms.Pumpkin: you guyyyyyys! I hate/love you. I'm gonna go with the Birkenstocks. I can't decide between the Mayari and the Yara.
The Mayari gets bonus point because Zappos has it in a narrow width. My feet are pretty small. Any advice? I guess I could just order both and send back the one I don't like.
pomegranate / 3980 posts
@allison: I like the second pair more but mostly because I hate things around my ankles!
grapefruit / 4136 posts
I LOVE my Born sandals, my feet can't handle shoes without support/cushion, Born has both. Some of them are super cute....some look like my great grandma designed them.
apricot / 435 posts
@allison: One of us! One of us!
I think that both are adorable! From what I've heard Zappos is pretty great about exchanges/returns, so it might not be a bad idea to order both and see what you like best. I think the ankle straps are adorable, but from experience, I love slip-ons. So easy!
And if they fit when you get them, but don't feel *quite right* or amazingly comfy, give it some time. The cork forms to your feet so quickly!
