I've heard Bermuda is safe. There have only been a few cases of Zika and they were contracted elsewhere.

Turks and Caicos. The most beautiful beaches I've ever see. We went last year and there was no Zika but check in case that has changed.

The Florida panhandle might be nice, such as the Destin area. I'm going there next month at 7 months pregnant and my doctor isn't concerned.

@JLC53: such a bummer.

@JLC53: We stay in a condo each year our friends own. But check out Seaside community in Destin (many on vrbo.com). It's a gated community that is gorgeous. It has several pools and they give you golf cart rides to the beach. I know there are several resorts all along the coast in Destin too.

Probably closest airport is VPS, Fort Walton/Destin airport.

Another option I know that has resorts is Pensacola, FL. Close to Destin and lots to do.

Maybe Northern Michigan? You should be able to get a direct flight into Traverse City from NYC. Toddler friendly, lakes galore, and Eastern time zone.

We just had a great trip to southern Maine. The beach was really fun for my kids. Tons of tide pools at low tide with so many crabs and even baby lobsters. There are lots of motels that have separate bedrooms or condos you can rent. Portland and Portsmouth, nh are nearby and fun to check out too. Water is chilly but refreshing!

When our Aruba vacation was cancelled due to Zika we went to the Glendorn lodge in Bradford, pa. It was flipping awesome. Kind of pricey but we didn't have to pay for flights so it all evened out.

Sort of random but I've always wanted to take my kids to Mackinac Island in MI. (You don't have to stay on the island, you can take the ferry in the day. But the Grand Hotel for a night or two also looks so nice.)

@JLC53: yes! We stayed at the South Seas Island Resort on Capitva. It is very much a family resort. We stayed in a beachfront condo on the south end of the resort and it worked great for us.

@JLC53: for a 2 yo that might be tough. There are lots of family oriented activities but geared towards older kids like real mountany active things. I would highly highly recommend it though if it's close to you! It was a 5 hr drive for us but we will def be back.

Since you have a 2 yo maybe great wolf lodge in the poconos? I went there this past April with our 1 & 4 yo boys and would highly recommend! They have a 2 bedroom suite option that helped us stay sane during the trip and tons and tons of kid activities all throughout the day and night.

How about Vancouver. It is a good place by the sea and fabulous people.

@JLC53: oooh if u remember (hehe), lemme know how the quarters is! FYI, in case you are interested, we did six flags, magic forest, cruise, the fort Henry museum... million dollar beach, arcades.

We ate at bistro Le roux (really good), log jam (pretty good), Caldwell house (very popular, but I thought it was just ok).

Portland, ME is one of my most favorite places for a getaway. Lots of good food and outdoor activities and less touristy than the cape or downeast, though the beaches aren't really swimmable as an adult (too cold), but I remember having a great time as a kid.

Like a couple of others have said, there are also some great places in the Adirondacks that are family friendly. If you like resorts check out the Sagamore on Lake George.

And a shout out for my hometown, Burlington, VT. Summers here are the best. The Inn at Shelburne Farms is a BEAUTIFUL property built by the Rockefeller family back in the day, that's actually on the same estate as a working farm museum that my nieces and nephews (aged 1-5) love. There's a small aquarium/science center, multiple municipal beaches with good swimming and tons of hiking for any fitness level. There are also lots of good restaurants and more microbreweries per capita than anywhere else in the country (if you're into that sort of thing). Also if you're in Jersey, Newark is one of the few airports that has multiple direct flights to Burlington. It's only about 45 minutes in the air and you will be in a tiny tin can, but the airport is only like 10 minutes outside the heart of town.
