I'm wondering if anyone doesn't use a rash guard for their LO... We never have, but I know a lot of people on here do. I mean I guess I probably should...but wondering how common they actually are, because I don't know anyone in real life who uses one for their kids.

yes, i use them for my 3.5 year old. i feel like it's easier than trying to lather sunblock all over his torso.

Half of LO's suits last year had rash guards and half didn't. This year I bought a navy zip up long sleeve rash guard that she can throw on over all her suits. It's so much easier to only have to sunscreen her face and legs.
ETA: And now that I have posted this my ad is for Vitamin D drops. lol.

Some days yes, some days no. For a quick 30 minute sprinkler session at 4 pm....not bothering. At 10 am when we are out for the day, yes. It also depends how cooperative the girls are being about sunscreen.

I got one before I knew it was a thing- I like the all in one zipped rompers from HA. We spend a fair about of time in/around water so they seemed practical.

We have some but the kids prefer regular swimsuits.

I did when they were younger -
DD wore one for swimming lessons at camp last year but a reg suit at home -age 4
DS wore a rash guard until age 5.5 when he asked not to (his big brothers don't wear them and I think he wanted to be like them)

We have a few of both.
I put them in rash guards if we're going to be out for a long time and I'm worried about sunscreen wearing off.
For half an hour an hour at the pool they're ok in regular suits. -
We use them every time with my 3.5 and almost 2 year old because I am lazy

We mostly only use them when we are at the beach all day. I'm lazy and cannot stand reapplying sunscreen all the time. Quick trips to the pool she will wear a regular bathing suit.

Ive been seeing them on kids more and more. We usually do short sleeve ones. For my older daughter if we're out in midday sun I usually have her in one. My youngest is a sun sensitive redhead so she's going to mainly be in one.

If they are playing in the yard or water table regular suits. If we are at the beach or pool or outside for a long time they wear them.

My kids always wear them and I started to a few years ago. We all have fair skin with histories of skin problems, so we cover up.

It's just so much easier to put on a rash guard than apply sunscreen around a swim suit! Plus I prefer two piece swim suits because they are easier to put on. There are times when she definitely doesn't need it but it's mostly the only suits we have. She has one regular one that she wears for swim lessons by its getting too small.

I'm planning to buy one of each. If we're just out for a bit after work and before dinner then a regular suit. Otherwise rash guard. Lots of cancer on DH's side so I'm not messing around with skin cancer.

Nope, we don't do rash guards. I'm probably not as sun cautious as I should be.

I do both, sunscreen and a rash guard. My son isn't in the water that much, but when we're outside at the pool, most of it is in direct sun. He actually prefers not to wear it while swimming.

I had no idea what a "rash guard" was until HB. I still hate that term and think it's a stupid name
We don't usually use them. I slather LO up in sunscreen before I put her swimsuit on her so I know I don't miss any areas. She doesn't go into the way much anyway so I'm not worried about it washing off and I am obsessive about sunscreen for myself and her, so we always have hats on, use sun umbrellas and I re-apply sunscreen all day to her. Probably too often!

Most of the people I know IRL put their kids in them. We have bought rash guard suits for our daughter since she was 6 months old because she's super fair and will burn really easily. I only buy a regular suit for her for when we are at indoor pools or the sun isn't too hot. We also live in the south where the sun is terrible.

I'm not a fan of them. My kids spend all summer outside in just diapers and then normal swimsuits if we go swim.

My boys don't like them. So this year I am not gonna bother. Sunscreen is an easier battle.

Both of my kids wear them, and I'll wear one occasionally as well. At the pool and beach, we rarely see other kids with rash guards.

I've only ever gotten DS bathing suits with matching rash guards. The first time he needed a suit he was only 4m and we were vacationing in FL, so it made sense since he was only allowed to use sunscreen when absolutely necessary. And I kind of have a fear of him getting an awful sunburn and it being my fault.
I can see how with girls though it could be a little different. LO2 isn't here yet and we already bought her some bathing suits for vacation next year. One has a rash guard and one doesn't. But DH really liked it, lol.

We always use one. I'm paranoid about skin cancer as both sides are really prone to moles/freckles.

I also figure as long as they are willing to wear them we might as well. They are very common here and are starting to become more popular for adults too

I am not a fan of the new, healthier sunscreens with zinc oxide because they're hard to rub in and I have a weird thing with stuff like that on my hands. So, rash guard it is to minimize the sunscreen for as long as LO will have it.

I use them for the LOs and me if we are going to be a long time or during peak times.
I think the fact that a third to half of the girls swim suits at typical retailers like Target, Carters and Old Navy is proof that they are pretty common and not just an HB thing.

We always use them (17m and 3y). My kids have pretty fair skin and I burn really easily myself, so it's just easier to use them and not have to worry about constantly reapplying sunscreen to the whole body.

We use them but at our local pool it seems like maybe 20% wear them, the rest just swim suits. The kids pretty much all do swim team here so once they join that they seem to stop wearing rash guards. It's so much easier than slathering my wiggly toddler with sunscreen though and I worry about effectiveness while in the water. We aren't neurotic about it though, she has some without the rash guard and sometimes she winds up in a diaper in the back yard.

Around us it seems like the majority of boys use them. We don't go to the beach or pool without them and usually long sleeves too because my kids are both really fair.

LO doesn't even own a normal swim suit. I think we'll get her one for playing in the sprinkler and such, since that will be brief, but anytime she's really out she needs better protection.

For the beach, always. For spray parks and other activities we use whatever we grab.

I've had them wear them their whole lives so they really don't know any different and don't mind them. And then I don't have to worry about missing more spots with sunscreen! -

We always use them....and with my personal fear of Zika, I'm definitely using them this year too for more coverage.

We always use them. I don't think my 3.5 year old DS even knows a "traditional" bathing suit doesn't include a shirt. This will be DD's first summer in the sun (12 months) and I've been disappointed in the lack of rash guard suits for girls. I had melanoma while pregnant with DS, so I take sun protection very seriously!
Maybe it's a regional thing, but pretty much everyone I know IRL uses them for their kids.

Adding in that I wear one too when we are going to be out in the sun for a while. It's just a lot easier than sunscreen, so I don't see why you wouldn't use one on LOs. My toddler sometimes finds her swim zip one and puts it on around the house. She just doesn't really know any different.

We do for our LO every time. It also helps keep him warm since pools up here can be cold.

@hummusgirl: Me too! I hate all the zinc sunscreens. So thick and pasty, and they turn my girls' skin so ashy gray. Not cute.
So yeah, we wear rashgaurds.
