My next appointment is 5/19, which is very late, I think. I'll be 16 weeks then. I'd prefer to have a 12 or 14 week appointment, just to make sure I don't have a missed miscarriage, but I know the odds of that do go way down at this point.

@Mrs.Panda I personally was annoyed that they moved my due date back to Halloween, just because I would prefer to have the later date in case they need to induce/schedule a C-section.

I got a call today saying that my insurance is now going to cover all of my care at 100%, which is awesome, except it excludes the NT scan because it's probably not "medically necessary." I still need to call them to deal but I have not wanted to spend 30 minutes on hold.

So doc agreed that with looking at ultrasound pics, my measurement today and when I know I ovulated that she has moved me up a week. I am now due Halloween. He he. Baby will come when it is good and ready. I am 11 weeks tomorrow which is the date I have always had in my head.

@Ms.Mermaid: That is awesome news! My next appointment aside from the early sex scan is May 12th I don't know if my insurance covers the NT scan (probably not) but my doctor doesn't recommend I get it anyway because I'm only 27 and have no family history of Downs Syndrome, or any other defects for that matter.

@Ms.Mermaid: Also, have you considered getting a fetal doppler machine? I have one and use it every now and again when I want to calm my fears. It's pretty awesome.

  10. Ms.Mermaid

    kiwi / 745 posts

@Mrs.Panda I have thought about it, but I thought they were really pricy, though on ebay they seem to be pretty reasonable. What brand do you have? I don't know whether it would feed into my anxiety issues or help with them.

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@Ms.Mermaid: I have the Sonoline B doppler. They are pretty cheap and it works pretty well. You just have to be patient and learn to go slooowwww. But once you find it, it's all worth it I find it helps me because I know pretty much exactly where to look for it now and I only do it about once a week or less. And I only intend to do it until I feel movement.

@Mrs.Panda: I have the same one. I have not found the heart beat yet, but neither could by doc today!! She said it is only a 60% chance for under 12 weeks, especially for first babies. All she and I can find is the placenta.

Went to the doc, I have gained 4 pounds... I cringed.... I did not like that. I told her I am not excited to get anywhere near the 200 pound mark!! She laughed and said well you might not get there..... yeah right! Thats just 25 pounds away!It is just motivation for me! I know it is all good, it is baby and my body needs to but ah, I was not ok with my weight before... and it scares me what it will be like after. It is a great motivator. The snow is finally starting to melt so it is time to start getting outside!!

Sorry I haven't been around much yet. We have been super busy! We closed on our new house on Monday and are in the process of moving.

Our appointment went well. We had an US and baby is measuring right on track with a strong HB of 151. We are so excited and it finally is beginning to feel real. If I can figure out how to post a picture from my phone I will a little later.

@Mrs.Panda: ***Our next appointment is April 29***

I had my pap appt today. To my surprise they did an ultrasound again (it's my 3rd one) and then I asked to hear the heartbeat because although you can see it on the screen, the machine doesn't have audio. So they used a Doppler, it was the first time I've heard it. Beating perfectly in the 160s. Here is a picture of my ultrasound. I added the labels for my parents so they would know

I loved the Doppler! It makes me really want to buy one!

@Mrs.Panda: That's looking more and more like a baby! I love seeing your pics so I know what to expect in a couple of weeks. I can't believe how fast they change!

@MrsScottish: I'm with ya on finally being able to get outside for some light exercise. I'll probably get close to the 200lb mark, too. I wish I had gotten myself in better shape earlier!

@ShayNanigans: yikes! That's crazy to imagine!

@April_Showers: @MarieJ: Yay for new houses! That's busy and exciting! We may be doing that this summer, too... we'll see!

    @DeannaY1230: so cute!!

Guys, I slept for 6 1/2 hours straight last night! That's the longest I've slept in one stretch since getting pregnant! I woke up feeling rested and neither sick nor hungry! It might have had something to do with the fact that my husband (voluntarily) slept on the couch since he has a cold. I think he had been waking me up each time he shifted or got up at night. Has anyone else been a super light sleeper lately?

  22. ChiCalGoBee

    nectarine / 2028 posts

@thisisme: yay!!!! I slept 6.5 the other night and felt like a million bucks! I personally have been making myself stay up later (until about midnight), with a bathroom trip right before I zonk out. This seems to help my (suddenly) tiny bladder go about 6-ish hours, when previously I was up and down throughout the night.

PSA: I'm on my first flight as a preggo, and even without drinking anything I've already been to the bathroom twice. I swear the altitude makes the have-to-pee-all-the-time even worse! I highly recommend an aisle seat to all of you because of this

@Mrs.Panda: yay, baby!!! You have me excited for my apt in a few weeks. I don't know that I'll get a u/s at the genetics appointment. I'll def ask for one , but if they say no I have to wait until my early May apt.

@thisisme: I've also been waking up a few times in the night. But I cannot get enough sleep! Sometimes I come home from work,
Sleep for about 2 hours, wake up, eat and go back to sleep. DH keeps asking me if it's normal I'm glad you got a good nights rest!

@ChiCalGoBee: yikes! I'll keep that in mind if I have to fly! I think you'll get a u/a at your genetic testing right? Are you doing the NT? Today when I went to my appt they did a counsyl test. I hadn't heard of it until today but I did it. Unfortunately this was the first appt my DH didn't come with me to. They said if he was there they would have taken his blood too. My NT is two weeks from today

*** @Mrs.Panda: such a sweet u/s! I love it! My next appt is my NT scan which you already have down for 4/25 - that's with the specialist. My next appt after that is with my regular obgyn and is 5/9. Thank you again for doing all of this

  26. ChiCalGoBee

    nectarine / 2028 posts

@DeannaY1230: we're meeting with a genetic counselor (versus an OB/midwife), so I'm unsure what the appointment will look like. I'll let you know as soon as I go!

Hubby just arrived in Chicago from Cali to be here for the announcement tomorrow. He's here less than two days...what a trooper! I'm excited and a little nervous. I just realized that, after tomorrow, my mom no longer thinks about "just me" ever again-baby is now our focus. What a wonderful thought!

  27. Ms.Mermaid

    kiwi / 745 posts

We told my parents yesterday. My mom has cognitive difficulties, so I didn't want to try to do anything cute with them, since I didn't want her to feel like she didn't "get" it. So I figured I would just make an announcement at brunch after we were done eating. Then there was a lull while we were all eating and I just blurted it out and everyone looked at me in shock, even my husband and my sister and her husband, who all knew. My mom immediately got this GIANT smile on her face and my Dad just stared at me in such shock that I burst out laughing. Anyway, they are very happy and excited for us, and I feel better that they know and I don't have to hide it anymore. Which is good because almost none of my pants fit anymore.

We tell my in-laws next weekend, and then we are going to start telling our friends. I am sooooo tired today, probably because we had a super-active day yesterday and I slept really poorly.

This is so exciting! I've been lurking for a while. I'm so excited to finally be able to post this!

    EDD: November 16, 2014
WHen did you find out? 5 weeks ago
    Child Number:1
Where do you live? Madison, WI
What kind of provider will you see? Doctor
When is your first appointment? We had it last week...so cool!
What kind of birth do you want? Medicated
What are you most excited for? Seeing our baby's face for the first time.
What are you most scared for? miscarriage or unhealthy baby
Symptoms so far: SO MUCH SPOTTING! This part is super scary. I've been into the doc many times, and each time, the baby looks great! They say I have a small subchorinic hemorrhage (sp?) and a friable cervix. So, I'm bleeding quite a bit. Other than that, all the good stuff one should feel at 9 weeks (bloating, exhaustion, nausea, breast tenderness, moodiness...)

I can't wait for trimester #2! I've had enough of the first one.
    Post a picture!

  29. thisisme

    apricot / 305 posts

@Mrs. BD: Hi! Congratulations! All that bleeding must be really scary! Are they able to do anything to try to stop it, or do you just have to keep a close eye on things? Do you expect it to continue throughout your pregnancy? And I'm with you on being done with trimester #1! Only a couple more weeks!

  30. Mrs. BD

    olive / 70 posts

@thisisme: Hi! It really is crazy scary. I am terrified every time I pee, which as you must know, is OFTEN! They are not able to do anything about the bleeding. I'm simply in the "high-risk" camp until it stops. They say it's my new baseline, and if it gets worse to call again. They hope it will go away after 12 weeks, but they said that it could definitely continue throughout the pregnancy. I have noticed that it increases when my activity increases. Therefore, I am laying low. I go to work, but that's it. I just got our groceries delivered for the first time! (great service, btw!) and, ironically, no BD for me and DH. How many weeks are you? When is your due date? How are you feeling? Is this your first?

  31. thisisme

    apricot / 305 posts

@Mrs. BD: Grocery delivery sounds like an awesome idea! I'm almost 10 weeks (Tuesdays I let myself start rounding up ), due Nov. 13 with my 1st. We ended up having to do IVF, so it feels awesome to be on this side of things! I've been taking it pretty easy, too, mostly because I'm exhausted coming home from work everyday. Keep taking care of yourself and your little babe!

Hey ladies! Let's get this thread moving. Play along if you want... How long have you and your DH/SO been together? What did you do for your first date?

DH and I met in high school, and our first date was my senior prom in 2003. He was a year behind me in school, so I tried to deny that we were actually dating all throughout the next year when I was in college and he was still in high school. He ended up coming to the same college, and the rest is history! We've been married since Dec. 2008.

We met working together 9 years ago at summer camp. We started dating after the following summer and have been inseparable since. We have been married since July 2012. Our first date was.... Debatable. We did the casual go for coffee several times and then we went for dinner. He then asked me to go to his cousins wedding, as friends. Well we left the wedding after having our first kiss, making out in the corner of a hallway and as officially dating. Ha ha.

Hey, so, what is everyone eating these days? I'm finding it really hard to eat anything at all. I just. don't. want. anything.

Mostly it's been potatoes, and ramen noodles. It's bad around here.

The thought of eating meat disgusts me.

    Anyone else?

We've been together five years! We worked together and had a secret romance for the first year. That was fun, but pretty sure we weren't fooling anyone!

@Sophs Mama: I am supposed to be eating 3500 calories for the twins. I know this sounds dumb, but is actually really tough. I have no appetite these days! I have been forcing myself to eat oatmeal, yogurt, lots of fruit and veggies, string cheese, milk, cashews, Wasa crisps, and eggs. Oh, and ice cream But my morning sickness isn't too bad. If I was still throwing up, I don't know what I would do!

@thisisme: fun question! Our first date was about 10.5 years ago, which is insane to believe! I was 19 and he was 20 (we're college sweethearts). We went to a Thai restaurant and basically had a pretty serious "what do we both want out of a relationship at this stage of life" convo. That was "it," and we've been together ever since! Our 4th wedding anniversary is next month.

Soooo yes, having this little one with my DH has been dreamed about for over a decade, and is much anticipated!

@Sophs Mama: Uhm...can I get a plate of salty carbs, with a side of carbs, and I'll end with some extra carbs:-). Just had a slice of pizza and pasta-no joke! I'm afraid to get on the scale at the doc next week....but even something as innocuous as a bowl of fruit turned my stomach this morning, so I'm sticking with what works. Now you have me craving ramen!

@MrsScottish: you have no idea how much I love that you married a boy from camp! I went to camp in Vermont for 7 years, and am a diehard "camp" person. If this baby is a girl, she will be attending my camp in, oh, 6 years:-). Long live summer camp!!

@thisisme: what a sweet story! I love that you have Prom pics together-that's so awesome!

DH and I met when I was 17 and he was 19. I was a hostess at Outback, and then he became a bus boy. We flirted and there was a definite attraction there - but at the time I kinda had a boyfriend, and he kinda had a girlfriend. I went to college after I graduated HS - he ended up going to the same college the same year. That is where it all began. 5 years later he proposed and in June we will be married for 2 years. So that's about 7 years together

@Sophs Mama: Although carbs appeal most to me now, they don't always make me feel better (I've just been nauseous, no vomiting). I'm finding that if I can eat some protein and a bit of fat, I feel soooo much better. I try really hard to eat a scrambled egg in the morning (definitely with some carbs), and cheese sticks are my favorite snack right now. Helps with the nausea, but comes with another problem, unfortunately! I can't wait till 2nd trimester.

@ShayNanigans: That sounds like The Office! Was it hard to keep your relationship a secret for so long? Did you have to stop working together once you "came out"? And 3500 cal/day is insane! I'm so sick of having to eat every couple of hours... you must feel like you're constantly eating!

@ChiCalGoBee: @MrsScottish: I never went to summer camp, but always wanted to. It might have had something to do with the fact that my sister and I were obsessed with the movie The Parent Trap!

@DeannaY1230: Going to college all four years with DH was awesome! Did he pick the college because you were there? Mine swears he didn't pick the school just for me, but everyone gave him a really hard time about it!
