@Adira: I was talking to a nurse this morning about the opposite issue actually, but she told me that when a mum gets pregnant again, the nursing child tends to wean themselves. She didn't know why, but she said it happens often (although obviously not always). If it were me, I would follow his lead and not push it, unless it's really important to you to continue.

I'm not pregnant, but had a similar illness-related issue over the weekend. LO was so stuffy (and probably had a sore throat) that she refused our bedtime session on Saturday night, and both morning and bedtime sessions on Sunday. She woke up feeling a bit better this morning and nursed no problem when I offered. I didn't pump any of the times we missed, and just offered at the usual time to see what she would do.

I would keep offering till he feels better. But if he still refuses then sounds likes he is over it. Or maybe he just isn't getting enough.

I really have no idea. I dropped out at the nursing club at 7.5 months.

I would take this opportunity to wean.

@Adira: When you are pregnant, the taste and quantity of your milk can change. It is not unusual for toddlers to not like the changes. There is often less milk, and sometimes you dry up completely (I did around week 10, though Ellie continued to nurse until the end of the pregnancy). If you would like him to keep nursing, I would just try all the things you would do during a strike--express some milk to maintain your supply, try nursing when he is drowsy or doing a "dream feed," try nursing in the tub (seems odd, but it worked every time either girl went through a strike)... don't push, but definitely keep looking for times he might be receptive. And, if you want, you can certainly use it as an opportunity to gently wean. If he's already striking it might be a really easy transition if it's something that you are okay with.

When my DS started refusing at 13 months for our once a day nursing, I took it as a sign it was time to stop. He never ever even asked for it again..

DS started refusing to nurse when he was 10.5 months old.
I stopped nursing and started pumping. Pumped for the last time on his 1st birthday!

@Adira: I know you don't feel ready, but it sure beats having to wean a LO who is crying and wanting to nurse. At least this way the heartbreak is all you.

@Adira: Ha, this is me too. I'm pushing weaning back all the time 'cause I cannot imagine stopping. Glad Xander got to enjoy his milk snack this morning.

@Adira: if it makes you feel better, Olivia was a total boob monster..I dread weaning both because of that, and because I lived in dread fear of blocked ducts/mastitis. However, we weaned without a hitch - she could not possibly have cared any less, and I never leaked a teeny weeny bit
