I need a recommendation for a good restaurant to go to for DH's 30th birthday. I feel like I don't know ANY of the new/newish places! It is in 2 weeks, so preferably not something that generally books 1 month in advance. Price range can be moderate to expensive, and same for formality level. Most kinds of food are ok--not Indian, Mexican, or Chinese. He likes Japanese, Korean, French, New American, etc. Any area of the city (we live in Brooklyn and are happy to travel around there, or go into the city). Thanks ladies (and gents!)

we had a date night recently at willow on franklin and fulton in brooklyn. delicious, inventive, fresh new american food in a really upscale but still casual environment. it was such a special dinner!

I really love Pair Wine and Cheese and La Vara, both in our neighborhood, but since it's a special occasion you might want to venture farther from home. I really want to try ABC Kitchen--all of my friends love it. Peter Luger's would be fun.

@hilsy85: I went to The Dutch on Friday and it was excellent. Great atmosphere too! West Village area.
Maialino for some modern and amazing Italian.
ABC Kitchen or ABC Cucina are excellent but may be hard to get a table 2 weeks out unless you're willing to do some random times. Both are Gramercy.If he likes Japanese, BondSt in NoHo is AMAAAAZING but expensive. We love it so much that we go every couple of months. I can tell you exactly what to get there if you need advice.
Lastly, Left Bank is great modern French/American. I only went once but it was memorable. It's in TriBeCa. (And since I went it was on Real Housewives of NYC, haha).

My picks would be Dover in carroll gardens, little park in TriBeCa or wild air on the LES.

Quality Italian on 57th and 6th! I also like the Dutch as someone else mentioned. Same goes for Saxon & Parole (its similar to the Dutch)

@hilsy85: I second Little Park, I think they only take reservations 2 weeks out, so you may have good luck with timing if you want to go there...
ETA - OH and even better than Little Park, try to get a table at Batard!! It's amazing and not incredibly difficult to get a reservation a couple weeks out, last time I tried: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/27/dining/restaurant-review-batard-in-tribeca.html
