Happy Mother's Day! I've been reading but haven't posted in awhile...I'm so jealous that all of your babies are still long enough to see gender, we've tried twice and can't get clear enough views to be sure!

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@mrsjenbug: so frustrating! Is there any way they're leaning toward? Any idea when you'll get another peak? Hope you get to find out soon!

@2littlepumpkins: they were leaning towards boy but in one picture it kind of looked like where the umbilical cord picture was...my husband really wants a boy so I don't want him to get excited (he'd obviously be thrilled with another girl but ya know)...I get another look May 19th

@mrsjenbug: How far along are you? I heard that they might be able to guess after 16 weeks.

@mrsjenbug: hopefully you get a good look next time! It took a long time to get my baby to uncross her legs during the scan.

Did everyone have a nice Mother's Day? DH surprised me with a diaper bag. It was totally unexpected!

I think I started feeling some movement over the weekend, but I'm unsure. Maybe one of the STMs can give me some insight? Saturday I felt something like zaps in my stomach and then yesterday and this morning I've felt small thumps. I hope it is the baby!

@Mrs. Pickle: yay that's exciting! I think that definitely sounds like it could be the baby! I have also started feeling some small infrequent movements I think..

My mother's day was pretty meh--LO was up all night Saturday night from coughing, so we were all exhausted yesterday, and he was super whiny and clingy, and we had a somewhat chaotic stressful day visiting family. DH did get me a gorgeous strand of pearls, so that was nice

@mrsjenbug: Hope the baby cooperates for the next appt. When is your next appt?

@Mrs. Pickle: How exciting! Can your DH feel it, too?

@Mrs. Pickle: I think it could definitely be the baby. I've been feeling my baby move/kick occasionally for the past 2 weeks (I'm 18 weeks now). It feels like it did with LO1, although this is earlier than I felt LO1 move (but I never felt her move much, even later in pregnancy).

We had our anatomy scan today and we found out it's a girl!! So our DD is going to have a sister. That part was exciting, but they also said my cervix is on the shorter side (2.7 cm I think), so they are having me come in for another ultrasound next Monday to monitor it. And they also saw something on the brain (I can't remember what word they used to describe it)- they said it is probably nothing to worry about but there is a chance it could indicate Trisomy 18. However, it only brings our odds to 1 in 3,000 instead of 1 in 10,000 (from 1st trimester screening). They had me take another blood test today (Harmony?) so they can get a better idea of my odds. I'm going to try to wait to get those test results back before I google it. I did google a shortened cervix though. Seems like 2.7 is borderline, so hopefully it stays there and doesn't get any worse. Does anyone have any experience with a shortened cervix?

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

    @cranberry: Congrats on your daughter!

As for the shortened cervix, my OB has been monitoring mine since I had some spotting earlier and had a possible Subchorionic bleed. I forget how long it was this past appt. I'll try to ask when I see them again. My OB said they would contact the MFM and tell them about it and if they were concerned, I would be hearing from them shortly. It's been a few days so maybe they aren't concerned. I'm trying not to worry about it until my OB or MFM does, but DH did ask about how this could affect us and the OB mentioned pre-term labor. DH was a bit freaked out that the babies can come as early as July.

@mrsjenbug: I hope you get to find out soon! Bummer about not getting a good look!

@Mrs. Pickle: definitely sounds like movement!

We had a good Mother's Day, just went to the beach and stayed the night on sat, had a relaxing but fun day!

@cranberry: yay for another little girl!! hopefully your harmony results give you some peace of mind and it turns out to be nothing.

@Mrs. Pickle: Oh, forgot to answer your question about Mother's day. I didn't expect much so it was pretty much like any other day for us. DH wished me happy mother's day so that was nice. I also got a bunch of texts from family and friends. It was nice. I think a lot of people were just so excited about the gender reveal on Friday. I think the gender reveal was the best part of my weekend.

@cranberry: Congrats on your girl! Those odds are still in your favor by a lot, hopefully you get some reassurance soon!

Ladies, it looks like I'm being referred to a high risk OB. I knew I wasn't gaining weight, especially the last couple weeks, but I didn't realize lo was in that much danger.

@2littlepumpkins: I"m so sorry were you one of the ones with HG as well?

  23. cranberry

    apricot / 305 posts

@bluestriped bee: Yea, not worrying about the shortened cervix is a good idea for now, especially if your doctors are not concerned yet. I feel better knowing that my doctors are aware of it now and monitoring it. They said that they are probably being overly cautious, so I'm going to try not to worry about it either until they say that they are concerned. With my first pregnancy, I didn't have any issues with my cervix that I know of, although LO1 did come 2 weeks early. I wonder if it could be related. I'll have to ask them next week.

@NovBaby1112: @2littlepumpkins: @bluestriped bee: @hilsy85: Thanks! I'm excited for another little girl. I always enjoyed having a sister, and now DD will have one too. It does feel a little strange knowing that I'll never have a son though since we are planning on this being our last child.

@2littlepumpkins: So sorry to hear that. At least they are aware of the issue though and hopefully the high risk OB can help.

@2littlepumpkins: sorry you have to be referred to a MFM. How much weight did they want you to gain? At my 14 week appt, my OB wanted me to gain 20lbs by the time I'm 20 weeks. Im not quite at 18 weeks and I've gained 1 lb over my pre-pregnancy weight. I saw my OB at 16 weeks and they didn't say anything about my weight. I still have days where I'm nauseous but I'm trying to eat as much as I can on good days.

  26. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@Mrs. Goose: @cranberry: @Bea: thanks ladies. I am probably overreacting.

@hilsy85: no HG just other medical issues.

@bluestriped bee: right now they are just focused on getting me back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm about 4-5 lbs below it now but weight gain has stalled the past couple weeks and I'm having trouble getting enough food in and my system doesn't seem to absorb all the calories even when I do eat enough.

  27. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@2littlepumpkins: Oh, no. I hope they figure out a solution to get you to start gaining again.

  28. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@bluestriped bee: Thanks. I think I was just kind of freaking out yesterday because my doctor mentioned the next steps if what we're doing doesn't work, and IV nutrition came up. With my first pregnancy (and even before/after) if anything, it was difficult for me to keep my weight under control, so this is totally foreign to me.. I'm guilty of being one of those people who sort of doubted people who say they "can't" gain weight.. nope, it's a real thing!

  29. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@2littlepumpkins: Hmmm and you didn't have this problem on your last pregnancy. You and your dr is probably trying to figure out what is so different for this pregnancy.

So a little update for me, OB wants to see me this week. They want to see how my cervix is doing and if it's continuing to shorten, I might have to get a cerclage put around my cervix. The nurse described it as string around my cervix. Is this going to hurt?

  30. NovBaby1112

    grapefruit / 4066 posts

@2littlepumpkins: you poor thing, I'm so sorry I hope the high risk doc can help figure something out for you!

@bluestriped bee: are they going to numb it first or anything? I hope it goes smoothly! hopefully they can give you some sort of numbing medication or something for it!!

I just got my genetic test results back today- turns out I am a carrier. So now DH needs to get tested, but with his work schedule and what not it probably will not be for a few weeks. I'm just hoping and praying he isn't a carrier, which is likely he isn't, but I just really want to make sure. On one hand I was relieved I didn't have the actual genetic disorder, but on the other, I hate not know if DH is a carrier or not. I guess we will find out.

Is anyone else not hungry AT ALL around dinner time? I feel like I eat a good sized breakfast and lunch, but come dinner, I do not feel like eating anything but some fruit.

  31. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@NovBaby1112: I have no idea if they are going to give me anything. (I found a thread on here about it and some mentioned needing a spinal block and it being surgery.... Yeah, I didn't think it was surgery, I thought it was a simple procedure... like a pap smear or something... haha.) Maybe they'll discuss the details if they decide tomorrow that I need one. Let's hope so.

  32. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@NovBaby1112: sorry to hear that Like you said the odds of your DH being a carrier too is so slim, but I know how stressful this is (we went through the same thing earlier in the first tri). I hope he is able to get blood drawn soon and it comes back negative!

  33. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@NovBaby1112: Did they tell you what you are a carrier for? Is there no way your DH can come in to get the test done. I don't know if I could wait weeks for him to do it.

  34. NovBaby1112

    grapefruit / 4066 posts

@hilsy85: I remember you going through that...yea it's def stressful but I'm just trying to be optimistic and hope for the best!

@bluestriped bee: it's this genetic disorder called Alpha1. It causes lung and liver disease. It's pretty rare I guess so I'm not overly worried about him having it, but who knows!

  35. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@bluestriped bee: Long story short, it's due to an infection I picked up. I think I picked it up working at a daycare, but I'll never know for sure. I'm seeing a specialist in about a week in addition to the new OB whenever that happens.

@NovBaby1112: The odds are still in your favor that your dh won't be a carrier! That sounds very stressful. I hope he can get tested soon!

@bluestriped bee: And sorry, I know nothing about cerclage, except that my grandma had one when pregnant with twins and delivered two 5+ lb babies. Hopefully it is not too uncomfortable!!

  37. mrsjenbug

    grape / 91 posts

@bluestriped bee: most of the time it is a surgical procedure done under anesthesia of some version (I've seen general more often but I'm sure that a spinal is also an option).

I had my appt yesterday and baby is tracking right on schedule so that's good! I had my doctor put the sex in an envelope so I could order cupcakes to do a little reveal for ourselves today.... The bakery just called and said they've never seen this but there was no sex indicated on the ultrasound! Ha! Now I don't know what to do! Because the doctor said he was 95% sure and even had the nurse video the U/S so DH could watch! So do I find a random person to watch the video and see if he wrote it on there at some point and then have them call the bakery? We don't have anyone around and I can't send the video to a friend in fear I'll accidentally see something! This is so funny but so confusing!!

ETA: I was able to send it to a local without seeing the pictures/video (just covered it with my hands and hoped I was sending the right thing!) and she said it was on there so she's calling. So funny!!

@mrsjenbug: Oh, thanks. Good to know.

@2littlepumpkins: Oh, an infection? Hope they figure it out. That's good to know your grandma had one (and with twins) and the babies were healthy.

@NovBaby1112: Oh. That's good that it's pretty rare. Does your DH have to wait weeks until he can find time to get tested?

@birdofafeather: Oh, no. When we did ours, I kept thinking that the bakery wouldn't get it. Hope you are able to do the reveal today. Can't wait til you find out.

@NovBaby1112: I hope your DH can get tested soon. I'm sure the waiting is stressful.

@bluestriped bee: Good luck at your appointment- I hope your cervix hasn't shortened anymore, but if it has at least they are being proactive and doing the cerclage. I don't have any experience with one so I don't know if it would hurt, I just know when I started googling shortened cervix after my appointment earlier this week a lot of posters were saying how much the cerclage helped.

@birdofafeather: Oh my gosh! That's so strange, lol. I wonder if you could call the doctor's office. Maybe it's on your chart?
