If you were with an RE, how many betas did you have? I just had two this time. I think I had 4 with my daughter. Same doctor. Wondering if it's normal to have one with a 48-hr follow-up (my HCG tripled) and no further blood tests. Thanks!

Didn't have an re, but did have 3 or 4 betas this time with a regular doctor.

@Mrs. Goose: is that standard practice or was there another reason for more than 2?

I only had two with both of my pregnancies. The numbers more than doubled so they just had me schedule my first ultrasound for 6.5 weeks.

Both of my OBs ordered 3 as standard, but also they do them 72 hours apart.

@CatchAFallingStar: I have a different doctor than I did with my first so I'm not sure if it's normal. I had an early ultrasound at the hospital that was way too early to see anything (4 weeks) because I was worried about spotting and some back pain and then went to see my doctor and he ordered the tests and another ultrasound in a few weeks. So my tests went until my hcg was 19,475 and there were 3. I just checked. I also had an initial hcg test done at the hospital when I went in the first time.
I feel like maybe he did it because he was confirming the pregnancy. Although now that I know he does that I would request them again. He told me at what time that 3 was standard. The three he ordered were at 19, 22, 25 dpo give or take because I think my ovulation calculating was off by a few days.

With my first two pregnancies that were losses I had 4 because the numbers weren't doubling well. With my son, I only had 2 because the numbers doubled well.

Two betas - one at 14dp5dt, one 48 hours later to check for doubling. It doubled so I was scheduled for an ultrasound for 6w6d.

I work at a regular gyn, not an RE, but we only do more than two if the rise is marginal or there is a change in clinical presentation (pain, bleeding).
