My toddler has maintained his percentile (roughly). But my husband was a peanut and is now 6'3. He grew into a tall kid in high school and then continued growing through college. My uncle was also the shortest kid in his class until college where he grew from 5'9 to 6'4

My son was born at 4 lbs 13 oz at 35 weeks but he's hovered around 10th percentile his whole life! He's 3 now.

It's all relative, I guess! I wouldn't consider a lot of the weights/heights mentioned on here to be unusually small....but DD3 has just hit the 3rd percentile for weight and 10th for length at 13 months (after being off the charts so far), so I guess that colors my opinion. Interestingly, though she's small, she's by far my chunkiest kid (her length & height percentiles are closest together).

DD1 (who is now 5.5) was born in about 3rd percentile for weight, I think 13th for length....she stayed there for awhile, and gradually started crawling up the curve around 3 years old. Now, while still small, she's something like 13th for weight and somewhere around 30th-40th for height. So while she's still on the small side, I wouldn't consider her a real peanut anymore.

DD2 started equally small, but "caught up" a lot sooner - she's around 25th for weight and 50th for height at 3.5 years. People comment that she looks tall.

ETA: My pediatrician has always said that kids who are off the charts small because they are early, or have a feeding issue, or some other "reason" for their size, catch up a little bit at some point by around 2-3 years (though obviously they're not likely to turn into 90th percentile kids!), but most kids settle into a quartile and stay there, with some fluctuation for growth spurts.

My LO is now 5. He maxed out around 10% for weight around 1 month, then fell off the chart for a looonng time and has been hovering right around 5% for the last few years. His height seems to range from 10-30% depending on whether or not he has just gone through a growth spurt.

There’s no way to tell now. My brother was almost always the smallest in his class (by a fair amount) and very slightly built. He’s still slender but he’s also well over 6’ - - he didn’t really grow until high school, but once he started he didn’t stop! Lol

Opposite of your experience, my LO was an 8 lb newborn turned peanut. Since about 18 months she’s been below 20% for height and around 6% for weight. They just all have their own individual growth curves and “plans”.

@Ajsmommy: I think the doctor is more concerned if they rapidly change off course. My doctor hasn't batted an eye as he's tracked the same all this time.
