I don't know about educators specifically, but I have worked professionally for 20 years and I don't wear button up/down shirts. I tried that and as I looked around, I noticed most women don't wear those either, particularly with blazers with a collar or under a sweater. Leave those to the boys.

If you want to do a sweater, I would get a solid color twinset (a shell and a cardigan. No cables, just plain knit. I know you don't want to look boring, but I do think the goal should be to look timeless.

I would do a dark blazer or suit jacket with a nice shell top underneath and a neutral necklace like pearls. I think better to be a little too dressy, then you have a very professional photo if you need it. IMO I think a twinset or a sweater is probably not dressy enough.

@bubblegum: I would opt for something more open at the neck (and not embellished--you can add your own accessories). The just add a cardigan or suit jacket on top.

Both of these color options (cream and blush) are great, as are light blue and grey--even a subtle print is fine. A delicate necklace (or pearls) and stud earrings are always timeless. And don't be afraid of a little makeup (to make sure you don't get washed out).

If you're using this for LinkedIn and you're not in a super conservative field (finance, accounting, law), I would go with a solid-colored silk or blend (i.e., not a cotton) blouse in a jewel tone. Depending on your body type you could go with a button-up top or not, short sleeves or long sleeves, etc. Personally I'd avoid patterns or excessive textures like lace, etc. My go-to spots for these kind of tops are Loft, J.Crew/J.Crew Factory, maybe Banana or Gap, etc. I bet you could even find something on ThredUp!
