I'm trying to make and freeze apple pies for Thanksgiving during E's naps today. So far I've gotten managed to get 4 crusts made and in the fridge, lol.
I use a mixture of straight from the freezer unsalted butter and shortening for my crusts, and pulse it in the food processor...those three things absolutely make my crusts amazingly buttery and flaky and delicious. And for the apple pie crusts I mix in a little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg to the flour before I pulse it all.
Do you make your own pie crusts? Have any secrets you're willing to share? Do you use butter, margarine, shortening, lard or something else?
