I saw that you could wet and then freeze a sponge to use as a disposable ice pack and I have been wanting to try it! DS had a field trip to the zoo and as a chaperone last year I knew all the lunches were hot and gross by lunch time - so I wanted to try the ice pack.

I didn't have a sponge but I keep cheapie washcloths on hand so I used 2 of those (work out to be 21 cents each)

Anyway I folded them and wet them and froze them. Put juice box on the bottom of brown lunch bag, then the ice pack - then his fruit and ham on top.

Teacher said at 12pm (5 hours later) his lunch was ice cold and the pack was still mostly frozen!!!

So if you ever need a disposable ice pack -try it!!!

pics: I wrote "ok to throw away" so a mom chaperone wasn't like "umm, what do I do with this???"
