DS1 is in his last year of "pre-school" and next year will attend Pre-K. We are deciding between public pre-k (at his eventual elementary school) and keeping him for a last year at his private preschool which has a good pre-K too. Did you LO attend pre-K? Or will yours? Did/Will you do public or private? What influenced your decision?

We are going to keep her at day care. While our elementary school is great, we have heard the pre-k program isn't that great due to a lot of Spanish speaking kids in the classes. They don't offer the ESOL program till kindergarten. Plus it will be easier not having to worry about all the school holidays and finding coverage yet.

I heard that the kids don't learn that much at the public pre-K and it's only a few hours a day so we kept the kids at preschool. We love the school and it's super close to our house.

I'm in Ontario, so my daughter is three in November and currently in pre-school, which we pay for. She's eligible to start kindergarten next year, because it's the year in which she'll be turning four, and we're going to do it, namely because a) I think she's developmentally advanced enough to handle it (she's bored right now at pre-school), and b) because we won't have to pay for childcare other than any before and after school care, and we're going to need that money to put her baby brother in daycare!

We did a private preschool, not affiliated with a daycare. I wanted a specific experience for my son (nature based) given that once he gets into public k it's not an opportunity that he would have again.

If we stay in our current city long enough, DD will go into the public pre-K (called Jr K here). It's a full day program and I think it would be good for her to start public school at that age since she has an Oct birthday and will already have been in her private preschool for over 2 years at that point.
It's more likely we will move though, and none of the places we'd move to have public pre-K, so I will do my best to find her a private pre-K, or at the very least, just a different preschool so she can have a change.

He was in a daycare preschool class while I worked part-time but now that I'm home full time again we enrolled him in a private pre-k this year. The public schools option was only 2.5 hours a day, so that was the main reason why we went private as they offer an extended program to stay for lunch. We also never heard any feedback on public while we read many good reviews on the private school we went with.

Private. We don't qualify for public so the decision was made for us!

Our public pre-k is only half day and that wouldn't work for our work schedules so private is the only choice. Plus we really like our pre-k school anyway.

We're going to stay with our private preschool for pre-k next year. I don't believe there's a public pre-k option, but would stay with our current school regardless.

our older one attended kindergarten in private, since the public one was 1/2 day. the younger one is now in preschool, but we'll probably keep her there to kindergarten. I feel like they get more out of it than the public pre-k/k, which i think has made a difference as my older one is in 1st grade now.
