I haven't been on here lately, I am still TTC and trying to not obsess over it, but I recently had a LEEP done due to an abnormal pap smear, and I was wondering if any of you have had a leep done and went on to have successful pregnancies?
Some of the things I am reading about them sound scary! Like incompetent cervix or scar tissue....have any of you had a leep and had any problems? Any help would be appreciated!!!

I didn't have one recently (2003) but I was worried about how it might effect becoming/staying pregnant. I was lucky and got pregnant on our first try and am currently 18.5 weeks along. My OB did an internal exam at our anatomy scan last week to check my cervix and said everything looks great. He said they will continue checking just to make sure but I should be okay unless I have bleeding or severe cramping-then I need to come in. Good luck TTC!

I had a leep in 2006 (so it was a while ago) and i was definitely concerned that it would affect how quickly I got pregnant....buuuttt it didn't (I took out my nuvaring May 25th, got my BFP August 28th.).
My doctor did say that it may slow down my labor (in that it may take me a very long time to progress once I started having contractions) due to scar tissue, but thats about it. I haven't had any issues with an incompetent cervix (apparently my cervix is nice and high and very, very closed)...32 weeks and so far, so good!

thanks ladies! my biggest concern was hearing about the incompetent cervix (sounds so scary!) glad to hear both of you are doing great in your pregnancies thus far!!
anyone else have any experience with this?

I've actually had TWO leeps, and am currently 34 weeks pregnant, with no issues so far. My doctor checked my cervical length by u/s at 9 weeks (for a baseline), and then at 16,18, and 20 weeks to check for weakening or thinning. I don't know about the scar tissue since I haven't actually delivered yet, but he did say they can "manually break it up" (sounds painful) to help me dilate if it keeps me from doing so on my own. I think they can do a lot these days for an incompetent cervix - just extra monitoring, cerclage, and I even heard on the news about these backward reclining beds that allow moms with really bad issues to carry to term!

I had a LEEP procedure about 2 years ago, and got pregnant on my first try. I am currently 28 weeks and so far all is well! My doctor does have my cervical length checked fairly often, but other than that it seems to be progressing like a normal pregnancy.

thank you all so much for sharing your experiences! it puts my mind at ease, it sounds like all of you are doing just great! I will definately bring it up to my doctor when I am pregnant so they can also monitor the length...do they measure it by ultrasound or just by manually checking it?

They do it by ultrasound, which is fun because you also manage to get a few more peeks at the baby than you would otherwise.

My friend had a healthy baby girl a few years after her procedure. she was carefully monitored throughout the pregnancy.

@AlyB25: they check it with the u/s but just an FYI- they may do vaginal u/s instead of abdominal. I had a couple of each, but he said vaginal is more accurate in the beginning when checking cervical length. They don't hurt of anything, just something I wasn't prepared for!
