i wouldn't get him anything!

I wouldn’t get him anything either, it’s awkward wording, and guys don’t generally care much for that stuff anyway. I’d be shocked if he felt left out.

We were in the exact same boat. It was "uncle Tim" from day one. I absolutely hated being called "almost Aunt Katie" and all sorts of cute names that pointed out we weren't married yet. I feel like if they are clearly headed for a long term relationship, then I use uncle or aunt.

I would definitely include him as long as they're in a serious long term relationship (which it sounds like they are)! When DH's brother and his wife were expecting their first we had been together around 5 years and living together for 4. I would have been very hurt if I hadn't been call "aunt my-first-name" from the beginning.

I would consider him an uncle, personally, but I suppose it really depends on the individual and you know them best!

My brother and sister-in-law are not married and (as far as I know) have no intention of getting married, but they've been together longer than my husband and I have. I would find it really odd to ascribe less meaning to their relationship than to my own, simply because they didn't choose to register their union and we did. I haven't thought of her as "my brother's girlfriend" in ages.

I would probably just call him Uncle. What are you going to call him when the baby's born? You probably wouldn't say Aunt Sister and Sister's BF.

DH and I had a long distance relationship, but when I moved in with him, his family immediately started referring to me as Aunt to his nephew. I had never really had any interaction with them until I moved there. If it's likely that they're headed towards marriage, or just that they're not the type to ever marry and will be together long term, I'd just stick with Uncle.

@greencraftycello: I would get them something generic that says Aunt and Uncle - not Aunt Heather and Uncle Mike

I would do an uncle mug. I think even if he doesn't care, your sister might feel like he got slighted. Though - Do you have more than one sibling? I feel like it would be really weird if your brother and his wife got Aunt and Uncle mugs and your sister only got an Aunt mug, but if you don't have any other siblings and you leave the boyfriend out, it's less conspicuous. I would still do it though, even though he might not care it might be really touching and I think it'll mean a lot to your sister to have her relationship recognized.
