My husband has the flu. I'm 16 weeks pregnant. Has anyone taken anything preventative while pregnant? Worried about getting sick

Some people take tamiflu but...i would i just avoid him, wash hands well, Lysol....quarantine him a bit. That kind of stuff

@blackbird thank you. Yes done all those things. Praying we don't get it! OB said nothing to take that's preventative so just seeing other opinions too!

I agree with @blackbird:. DS had the flu while I was pregnant and I just washed my hands and kept things clean.

@mommygrace: my DD had the flu and I wasn't offered Tamaflu because it was a live virus, I just had to wash my hands, do my best to avoid too much touching (impossible with a sick 2 year old) and pray. I ended up getting it, but because I had the flu shot it wasn't as bad as it could have been (influenza A not stomach flu)

Tamiflu isn't a live virus, but it has some pretty nasty side effects, so I wouldn't take it unless I came down with a documented case of flu. Is your husband actually influenza positive? Flu season has already peaked for the year and there are some other nasty viruses that have filled the niche such as coronavirus. And Tamiflu won't work for those.

I would check if elderberry / sambucus is safe to take while pregnant. It is proven in some studies as effective as tamiflu and it has worked wonders for me! You can buy it at whole foods.

@mommygrace: my OB insisted I take the preventative dose of tamiflu (1/2 the regular dose) but my sons ped said just said to call if he had a fever

DH had the flu when I was in my first trimester. I slept on the couch, washed the sheets, hands, everything. My OB said what I did was enough to prevent getting it. If I could prevent getting head colds, I'd be thrilled. I'm on head cold #2 in over a month. So tired of this.

@mommygrace: I took Tamiflu at 10weeks or so after being exposed at work. No regrets here. I would definitely take it if DH tested positive. BTW: apparently Sambucus isn't safe in pregnancy.
