I had a really bad pumping day yesterday and could tell something was up with my pump, I could hear air moving around weirdly. I changed the membranes this am and all is fixed!

The yellow ones? Or the clear ones? Just replaced the yellow and membranes.

How can you tell when you need new valves & membranes? I have had my pump for about a year and a half used for about 5 months total. I have never replaced them.

@singingbee: mine are white pieces of plastic. I think they're called membranes oops!

@Lindsay05: I wish I knew. I just changed mine because I was having issues and didn't know what was causing it. This site says every 2-3 months for EP's so I'd guess you are fine. I estimate I've pumped 300 times since I've been pumping so they probably needed it http://pumpingtimes.com/how-to-care-for-your-medela-pump-in-style-advanced-pisa-for-best-performance/

@Lindsay05: If you put a new one next to an old one, you'll feel how much thicker the new one is. I usually didn't replace until they tore (tiny little tears right next to the part that stick into the yellow part) but sometimes I replaced if it felt really thin.

Yes! I replace mine every month and sometimes alternate membrane sets. I definitely can tell the difference!
