My LO had a mild reaction recently to a spray on children's sunscreen, so just thought I'd share! Bummer since it is so much easier to spray than wrangle her with the lotion!

Thanks for the info! I've been avoiding spray sunscreens because DH has a mild asthma condition. I will continue to use the lotion, even if DS has a fit about it every time!

I use lotion as our primary application but for hard to get spots like her scalp we will probably continue to use spray. I wonder too about the difference in spraying indoors versus outdoors.

I love the convenience of spray but I never use it on LO and rarely use it on myself. I feel like it gets on everything and in my mind a lotion/cream just seems like it would offer more protection.....despite the annoying ness to put it on!

Is this just aerosol sprays? We have this http://www.amazon.com/Babyganics-Cover-Moisturizing-Sunscreen-Spray/dp/B0083TS0IE and I love it. I'd heard this about sprays before but I thought the pump kind were ok. Anyone know?

@jetsa: I, too, thought the pump kind was better than the aerosol kind. The babyganics spray on is listed as a rating of 3. I've heard good things about babyganics sunscreen (non pump kind... EWG rating is 1). The EWG says it's the concern of the nanoparticles of any spray. Though, the scientist in me thinks the aerosol would have a finer particle than the pump kind. Anyway, I'm still going to use the babyganics but not use the pump/spray part of the bottle. I'll just pour it in my hands like any other sunscreen.

I wouldn't mind using the spray. I'd do it outdoors and for the face, spray on hands then apply. But back, body and arms, seem acceptable to me.

@jetsa: @stiletto_mom: Looking further into why the EWG does not recommend the spray.
"But EWG is concerned that these spray products pose an inhalation risk and may not provide a thick and even coating on skin. In 2011, FDA raised similar concerns. The agency indicated it would ban sprays unless sunscreen companies submitted more data to prove that spray sunscreens protect skin and pose no safety hazards. Until companies can provide the data to negate these concerns, EWG cautions people to avoid these products."
So in addition to the inhalation risk, they are saying spray products are usually thinned out and may provide less coverage. That does make sense.

@bluestriped bee: look into babyganics. Lots of bad reviews.
We went with an honest Co aresol that only has zinc. I understood the risk of titanium inhalation was the big factor. We are in FL so sometimes I need to take a small risk to avoid a burn with ease of reapplication. For example if they are sleeping and I don't want to wake by rubbing in. Or for scalps. Or for touch ups.

@T.H.O.U.: oh, really? I have been hearing more bad reviews for honest company sunscreen than babyganics.
I know Amazon's reviews aren't completely accurate but babyganics has 4.5 stars and honest company sunscreen has less stars. Also, I'm not too fond of the honest company hype. But I'm glad you like it and works for you.
