No, and I agree with PP. I think the point of a registry is to help out a new mom with things she needs, while it's a nice idea, I feel like if you don't need it then I would skip having a shower or tell someone by word of mouth if they ask.

I haven't ever seen it nor have I done it.

If I saw it on a friend's registry I wouldn't care one way or the other but I wouldn't donate - I would rather buy gifts for YOUR baby

I would roll my eyes at it if I saw it on someone's baby registry. Because I would think "oh look, she wants us all to think how thoughtful and selfless she is". It seems kinda "holier than thou".

@bluestriped bee: I actually would donate to it because I totally get your sentiment. we had baby showers and registries because our families want to celebrate the baby but we didn't necessarily need them to buy anything for us. I understand I'm pretty lucky and that there are a lot of people who aren't as lucky and I like to give back also. I didn't have charities on my registry and I'm not sure my family would have donated to them but I have asked in the past for Christmas gifts to be made to charity instead

@bluestriped bee: I've never heard of it and it wouldn't bother me. I'm not sure I'd buy from it or not, but I love when people do donating for birthdays or weddings.

I am all for donating to charity, but this feels tacky to me. It's almost like asking others to donate... If I saw that on a registry, I'd just think "why don't you donate yourself if that cause is important to you?"

I'm surprised at the strong (negative) opinions about this. I don't think it would bother meet to see it, but I also probably wouldn't donate, either. We did, however, do something similar for our wedding registry. Only registered for contributions towards specific portions of our honeymoon (wide range of $ amounts/ activities/portions of our trip) or to the local food bank b/c we absolutely didn't need (or want) any "stuff". When baby came we needed everything--though, we received enough blankets to cover a dozen babies--so ironically, we likely will pass along many of our gifts to charity.

I generally agree with those saying t just sits wrong with me. I like the idea, but that's not what a registry is for. That being said, I might have considered adding them to our old registries this time, since we genuinely didn't need people to get us anything but people wanted to. But our situation is very unique.

I think it's nice. I don't know how many people would choose to donate rather than a present they can see new baby with, but I would not in any way take it negatively.

The charity and friend would have to align for it not to come off insincere. Also I would expect to see a very streamlined registry if someone is asking me to divert money to someone else's child. I'd rather the parents-to-be select products that are socially aware. Remember when Pampers partnered with Unicef or WHO? I bought the packages with the stickers because that meant another mom in need got a package too.

I haven't and I am also not a fan of the idea. I would feel obligated to purchase a gift for the couple AND donate to their cause so it wouldn't look like I came empty handed to their shower.

@bluestriped bee: I see. I would still feel obligated to bring a gift for the mother-to-be to open at the shower but maybe that's just me.

I had a friends that married later in life and so they had everything they ever needed and asked for no gifts... if someone felt inclined to give a gift they asked for a donation to their favorite charity.

With that being said.. I can see this happening for a second born that's the same sex as the first since you pretty much have everything you need (if you kept everything) and may still want to celebrate the birth with a party and people might be incline to give you something but you don't need it. If that were the case I would donate but this is your first kid so I think I would rather just give you something I think you would need.
