We are starting our search for a small SUV. We currently have a Honda CRV, and while we aren't opposed to getting another, I'm curious to hear which cars you like. The most important features I care about is AWD and decent gas mileage (oh and I'd love to have a sun roof again). We have two kids that are still inBritax car seats.

@birdofafeather: we have an outback too and love it! We are upgrading to something bigger with #3 on the way but could totally make due with the outback if I wasn't itching for a new car anyway. Subaru is coming out with a 3 row SUV sometime next year and it looks great!

Outback! I just sold mine and was SO sad! We are expecting a 3rd and it was like driving a clown car. I can't say enough good things about it! Drives great in snow and tons of trunk space, great gas mileage. The only drawback is if you plan on having 3 I would definitely size up. We couldn't even fit a 3rd person comfortably in the back between 2 convertible seats.

Following this! I've been looking at Subarus as well. I'm afraid of the station wagon look with the Outback, but also don't want to be too boxy with the Forester. DH has a Nissan Pathfinder, and I love it, so I've considered taking a look at the Rogue.

We have a Volvo xc60 and love it. We have the biggest engine option so gas mileagemilage is probably not winning any awards... It's great for car seats and super comfortable. I can't do 3 Britax marathons across the back seat but I can do two and a clek or a marathon and a clek plus a spot next to a window (or middle) for an adult (a cozy spot but not miserable.)

@2PeasinaPod: it's so tall, it's hard for me to think of it as a station wagon style. My sister has a forester and while it technically has the same volume of storage space in the rear, the bed space of the outback is bigger.
@bushelandapeck: off to go find pics! I've always said that if Subaru made a 3 Row, I'd be all over it. DH just got a new truck so he's made it clear that the subie is staying for a while!

Not exactly a crossover but we love our Ford Flex. It's more like a modern station wagon but the size of a SUV. It's so easy to get T in and out of.

I currently drive a Nissan Rogue but before that had a Honda CRV. I really enjoy driving the rogue! And like the features it came with. But my CRV trunk was definitely bigger, so that has been a bummer.

We also love our Outback! We test drove the Forester, the Honda CR-V, and the Mazda CX-5 as well. I love the way the Outback drives (due to the CVT transmission) and it just felt like a step above the other models we were considering. The amount of cargo space is great. I also was not crazy about the station wagon-ish look, but I think they've 'sported up' the design enough and I've gotten used to it that I actually find it quite nice-looking now.

My 2003 Honda CR-V died and while I loved that car, we went with the Subaru Outback for its successor and I love it. We live in rural Colorado and it's always great in sketchy road conditions and fits quite a bit of cargo. I would definitely recommend it.

We are considering an Outback and with so many recommending it, Ill move it up on my list. Time to testdrive. My first car was a Subaru! My husband drives one too.

@birdofafeather: we are going to wait to pull the trigger on a new car until the new Subaru SUV comes out. It looks pretty good, size looks interesting (as long as it isn't massive). I want to see what the engine is like and how it drives but I'm very intrigued.

@birdofafeather: That's really good to know about the bed vs. storage volume. I was also considering the CrossTrek too, but I'm not sure if that's way too small for our family.
