Just as the title says...washer dryer recommendations much appreciated. Insurance/FEMA is paying so I think the budget is pretty generous. TIA!

We love our LG front load washer and dryer. You do have to have space to keep the washer door open in order to prevent mold growth; otherwise, they're my absolute favorite appliances!

I love our LG top-loader combo. I didn't want to fool with having to air out a front-loader especially with small kids. And I know from having them in our last house just how bad the front-loaders can start to smell.
This is the washer, and we have the matching dryer:

We also have an LG front loader. My favorite feature is the timer, I can put the clothes in and set the washer to begin up to 18 hours later. I often put a load in before going to bed so that it will be done in the morning, just as we're waking up.

If it will be in a well trafficked area make sure to research front loaders and mold issues. We have a small front loader one but its in a tiny closet right in the living room, so I can't leave the door open for it to air out and it gets nasty. If we get a new one I'd definitely get a top loader for that reason.

We have the Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum- love it! It's a toploader, but I'm not a fan of frontloaders.

I really dislike front loaders. We have Speed Queens that are top loaders and they are workhorses. A friend of ours who owns an appliance repair company recommended them as being indestructible and I've found that to be true. Love them!

@coopsmama: yesss! We have the Speed Queen too. My in-laws spent a fortune on their LG front loader and something happened with the seal so water leaked everywhere during a cycle. It scared me away from front loaders.
I did a lot of research and its hard to find a nice washer that has an agitator. We really needed an agitator with toddler clothes and stains. Most appliance stores recommended the Speed Queen and they last forever. It's not pretty! But it works well. My parents have had theirs for 7 years which is longer than their Whirl Pool lasted.

@coopsmama: @HLK208: Interesting, I've never heard of Speed Queen…gonna go look them up!
I am definitely going to be pushing for a top loader though!

We just got a new Samsung HE top loader washer and dryer. Did not want to deal with the mold/cleaning issues of the front loader - I know too many people who have had horrible problems. So far, it seems to be working great, although it's probably too early to tell!

I just wanted to chime in and say that I miss my old top loader. I don't love having a front loading machine. Have you seen you new one by Samsung? http://www.cnet.com/news/samsungs-washer-with-built-in-sink-is-here-at-last/
Have you also checked out consumer reports?

I have a Miele front loader washer/dryer set. They're about 7 years old now and I used them just about every day. Love them, I'll buy the same when these ones kick the bucket (hopefully in another 20 years!)

I don't like mine but I love my parents'! They have a whirlpool duet washer and dryer and they are fabulous! Will definitely get that set when we get a house (someday).

We got the LG front loaders and love them. DH researched a ton and looked at consumer reports as well as talking to Home Depot and appliance center guys. We're really happy with our purchase so far!

@Boogs: Wow! that's amazing with the sink! It's been a little crazy, but yes I'm going to check out consumer reports as well.

We love it. It works great! I was scared of front loaders because of all the mold stories. One word to the wise...it's pretty deep so if you are a short person it might be hard to reach all the way in to the bottom!
