I never heard this before - I used the clear blue digital OPK and reused the reader on occasion. I never had a problem - my surges seemed pretty much right on with my other ovulation (and now I'm 15.5 weeks pregnant, so I think they were accurate!)

Update: Apparently you can reuse the monitor as long as you are using the left over sticks that came with it (i.e. if you buy one with 20 sticks and use 10 one cycle, you can use the other 10 with the same monitor your next cycle).

You can't use new sticks with the old monitor however. If you run out of sticks, throw the monitor out and start on a whole new pack.

The test does store your results. It will only show a positive if there is an increase in LH since your last test. This is why they tell you to stop testing after 1 positive with the digital tests, because it is unlikely that the next time you test, your LH levels will be as high as when you surged, but it doesn't mean there is no LH at all. Chances are, you will test negative right after a positive.

My guess is that even though you got a smiley face on your first test this month, it is correct because by that reasoning your LH level would have to be as high or higher than it was the last time you tested positive.

@tequiero21: Honestly, I am sure that Clear Blue just says that to cover themselves or to keep you buying. I don't think it matters what pack the sticks came in. They are all the same so I don't see how it would make a difference.
