What kind of sandals do you get for your active preschoolers? DD1 will be 4 this summer. In the past she’s mostly lived in jelly shoes and cheap sandals along with tennis shoes. I’d like her to have some better sandals though, because she doesn’t love wearing shoes in the summer. I’m looking at Keens. Any other suggestions?

@LemonJack: DD wears Keen sneakers and we both love them. Our summer is so short, I can't cough up the money for Keen sandals. I usually buy her two different pairs of Oshkosh active type sandals. She wears them for nearly everything including waterplay, hence the two pairs. We buy two different colors just for logistics sake: cshe wore the pink ones in the sprinkler this AM, grab the blue ones."
Last summer, I bought the same style, Cat and Jack brand...they were junk.
ETA: your DD might dislike these, they are pretty sneaker-ish. My requirement is closed toe as we are always adventuring in the summee.

I saw khombu sandals at Costco and got those for both kids. The kids can find it really comfortable. They’re easy to run around in too and are good for waterplay.

We've bought keens in the past, but both my girls prefer natives if you're looking for waterproof sandals.
I also end up buying fun sandals from gap, carters/osh kosh.

The last two summers my LO has chosen these great Reef sandals. They look like flip flops, but they’re better. The footbed is molded instead of flat. It also has a back strap (more comfy than others) to keep them on. She runs and climbs in them. She is able to put them on by herself. Size down in these.

We have sandals from See Kai Run. I love them! They’re a bit pricey for kids shoes, but I bought ours on sale.

We bought Native Charley’s for my 2 and 4 year old for vacation in January and LOVED them. Sturdy, washable, they can get wet, and they both were able to run around without them falling off.

@SweetCaroline: Thanks! I’ve seen those and wondered if they were decent or not. I think I would prefer if they were a bit more open, but they’re definitely a contender, especially because she would be allowed to wear them to school (regular sandals aren’t allowed).
@Mrs. High Heels: These are perfect! I’ll keep an eye on those for next summer (DD’s feet are still a little too small).

We just the Newport Clogs from
Freshly Picked. They are closed toe so perfect for school / playground! Those, along with salt waters and a couple Livie and Luca sandals, will likely be our go-to spring / summer shoes. -
We live in the tropics, so it’s sandas year round. My daughter has had SuperFit, Osh Kosh and Saltwaters in the last 8 months. They take their shoes off inside, so they have to be able to buckle/fasten sandals by themselves. She’s 4 and has been able to do the Saltwater buckle since a little after 3.5.

I bought DD a pair of kamik girl's sandals from amazon, and they are going strong a year later. Great for outdoor play, closed toe to protect feet while on the playground, they dry very quickly when wet, and they have great grip.
(they also stiiiiink like heck after a while)

DD1 (almost 3.5) has been in Natives Jeffersons every summer at daycare.

DD wore these for the last two summers. She has them in silver and pink. I like them because they are comfy and looks good with anything (summer dresses, shorts..)
