If you notice your friend's child sitting like this, do you say something to them about it?
These are friends and neighbors. I was thinking maybe next time we see her doing it, we could just say, "hey, I noticed she was sitting in the W position. Do you guys correct her or just let her be?"?
What do you say?

I would have to see it in pictures or in person many times before I say anything. Its not the end of the world for a kid to do that every now and again. But if thats how they spend a lot of time on the floor then I would say something.

No. Lo and I have done tons of classes and activities over the past few years and I have noticed so so many kids sitting like this. I had thought it meant there was a problem or low muscle tone but after seeing so many kids do it I figure it can't mean all those kids have an issue. If it were a super close friend and I noticed the kid sitting that way all the time I might try and bring it up somehow but honestly probably not. Especially if that was the only different thing I noticed about her.

I wouldn't say anything, but only because E sits like this all the time and I just let her be!

No because the research seems pretty mixed from what I have seen about it being an issue or not. My 2 year old sits like this from time to time and it grosses me Out but I let her and she's just fine.

Uhh, it seems like a pretty normal way to sit for a kid. I'm sure I did it as a kid. Is there research out there that say they shouldn't sit like this?

Nah. I used to correct DD, but I realized that sometimes to do certain things on the floor she has to sit like that she her legs are out of the way.

I'm aware both kids sit this way and someone not close to me commented on it on FB and it annoyed me, so my answer is no don't say anything

I don't- because while I know you are supposed to correct them and it's not good to sit like that, I don't remember why.
My sister is an OT and when she saw C do it once she asked me about it sort of subtly- like, oh does she sit like that a lot? But it's my sister and she is a pediatric OT, so I made a point of telling her to always feel free to bring things like that up to me.

DD occasionally sits this way. I was skimming through her old pictures and noticed that I uploaded one of her sitting this way, but the focus was on something else. I am glad no one mentioned anything because it's not something she does all the time.

I sat like this all the time as a kid with no ill effects.
ETA: So, no I wouldn't say anything. I always got comments because people couldn't believe I found that comfortable.

I would let it be. My daughter sits like this and we do correct her now, but we never used to. Her old pediatric ortho said it was fine and not to correct, her new one says to correct, so we do. I wouldn't really appreciate someone saying something to me about it.

What D's old pediatric PT told us was it's only a problem for kids who are already having problems... An otherwise typical kid is fine to sit like that! It just requires less core/leg strength and if your kiddo needs to work on it you want them using those muscles all the time
