DD is 6 months old and still in the R&P next to our bed... She's getting big enough that she should be in her crib, but I'm scared to move her! Partially because she is SUCH a good sleeper as is, but mostly because she will share a room with big brother, who is 2-1/2 and loves her, and loves to cuddle. I'm scared he will crawl in bed with her in the MOTN and smother her.
Am I being paranoid? Anyone else room-share with a toddler and infant?

@josina: My girls share! A is 10 months and has been in her sister H's room since she was 10 weeks old. H has never, ever tried to climb in to the crib to cuddle with her. H was never a climber though, so while I think she knows that she could theoretically climb in, she just doesn't.

I have a 3 yr old and 4 month old and was terrified about this because we had the kids share for the first time on a recent vacation - and it was totally not an issue. DS1 would stare lovingly at the edge of the pack n play but that's it. And neither of them slept any worse when they shared.
ETA: not to add to your worries, but I was worried about climbing in for snuggles and also trying to provide comfort with blankets or pillows. Again - none of these things happened

@avivoca: DS already climbs in when she's not in there, or even if I just lay her down for a second while we get him ready for bed, so I know he can climb in.
@JennyPenny: Glad it worked so well for you! DS is totally a snuggler, and will cuddle with her if we're all laying in bed... but he cuddles a little too hard! Ugh.

@josina: That's tough. Could you try reiterating that he is not allowed to climb into the crib and that the crib is for baby sister? I think once she becomes mobile he will think twice about being in her bed. I know H does not like it when A climbs into her bed.

Is he old enough to understand it if you talk to him about it over and over? not sure of verbal ability / understanding?

Could you turn on your monitor really loud so that if he does anything you'd hear it and wake up?

@avivoca: Maybe we need to do some practice rounds and put her to sleep in there for naps or even when we're getting him ready so we can reiterate that he's not allowed in there.
@DesertDreams88: I think he'd understand it... listening is another story. 
@snowjewelz: I need an alarm that goes off when he touches the crib, lol. Has that been invented yet?

@josina: Can you put her crib in your room until he can be trusted? I think if he's climbing in there when you put her down for a minute despite being told not to then your concerns are valid. But at 6 months she should definitely be out of the rock n play sooner rather than later.

You could try putting one of those tents over her crib. They're for stopping kids from climbing out, but I imagine would stop a toddler from climbing in as well.

I would totally be scared of this too. My DD who is 4 is always trying to cuddle with her little bro. She also loves climbing into cribs or pack n plays and pretending she's a baby. There's no way I'd be comfortable if they shared a room until he was old enough to "defend" himself.

I have never had this problem, but I don't think your concern is unwarranted especially considering that your older child already knows how to climb in the crib. My son was lots of fun at 2.5 but would not have understood the high stakes.

@josina: My two boys share. My oldest knew how to climb in the crib but he never did it while his brother was in there when they were alone. They didn't share until my youngest was 10 months old though. Maybe get a camera to watch how bedtime goes?

@josina: There is crib netting that's super cheap, but I don't know if that will deter him enough or if he can still climb then the net will cave it making it worse

Honestly i was worried that DS1 would hurt DS2 when they started to share. Sometimes to get my attention he would reach in the crib and grab the baby. He has never done it when I wasn't in the room. And is actually very protective, just sometimes uses his brother to get my attention...
They almost never wake each other up so once they are sleeping they pretty much stay that way or cry for me.

Thanks for the tips and especially letting me know that I'm not paranoid!
I ended up putting the pack & play in our room and we're on night 2 of her sleeping in that. Night 1 i was nervous because she sleeps on her tummy but we're all good, there's always something to worry about!
I'll move her to big brother's room when she's older and can fight back.
