For those who have shopped around for the best deal/still good coverage for car, home, and life insurance, where did you find the best deal? Right now we have everything with state farm, but we've never looked at other companies or asked for a better deal. Thanks!

@Chuckles: Progressive! Not sure exactly how much we save on home insurance, but our car insurance is about 75 bucks cheaper a month.

It’s super easy to check the online ones - I have had good luck at different times with geico and progressive. When I switched from progressive to geico, Progressive was very nice and asked to match the rate, said whoa we can’t match that right now but it’s worth checking around every 6 months. So you can always check around and then call State Farm to see if they will match even if you don’t really want to switch.
Also you always hear that bundling is cheapest but that hasn’t been my experience - at times I’m sure it is but sometimes not. We saved a huge amount on cars switching to geico but their homeowners was not a good deal and a bundling discount couldn’t make it up. So again just worth doing the math on it.

Seconding @bhbee: comment: when our auto insurance went up 400% (!!!) due to an accident. I called geico and tried to reason with them, and got nowhere after about 20 min. I contacted our independent insurance agent who got us a good quote from progressive, I called geico to cancel, and they matched progressives price AND refunded the premium that had already gone through.

Also we are not bundled because I find it harder to compare prices and policies that way.

A lot of people in my area go to insurance brokers to get them the best deal. I've been with Liberty Mutual for years b/c they have extra discounts for being an alumni to my university. And I call them every year to see if I'm missing out on any discounts or need to re-take my defensive driving.
I was told tho in my state/area, the costs has really gone up lately

Thanks, everyone! I got a recommendation from a local mom for an insurance agent. I'll give that a try and also check out Progressive.

@Chuckles: I believe liberty mutual is one of the best. Their rates might not be the lowest but when you need to file a claim they do not play any games. For insurance I would go with a company that will honor their sidev with no hassle

@Mrsbells: thanks. That's the thing - I think we can probably get a better rate, but I don't want to sacrifice coverage or the quality of the company too much.

I got recommendations from family and went through a broker. I have "an insurance lady" who's super nice and accommodating. When another competitor tried to poach my business, I got his quote and went back to my place and they matched it. Bazinga.

@DesertDreams88: geico did something similar to me, crazy high increase and when we called to cancel they lowered it to less than what we had been paying. And 6 months later gave another decrease.

@Chuckles: There are other carriers just like or even better than State Farm. You will have to go through an independent agent to access those carriers. State Farm agents can only offer you one policy- theirs- if you fit their guidelines. We recently bought and sold a home, so it was a good time to reevaluate my insurance carrier. We used to be with Nationwide but switched to Farm Bureau. We're paying less to insure two cars with full coverage with Farm Bureau than we were to insure one with Nationwide and the coverage is virtually identical. Same with the house, the premium was much cheaper for very similar coverage.
