So here's a question:

My company may FINALLY be offering short-term disability as a benefit (with my first pregnancy my leave was completely unpaid). We have to sign up next week and the benefit would start Dec 1, 2016. The pre-existing condition clause states that you have a pre-existing condition if 1) you received medical treatment, consultation, care, or services including diagnostic measures for the condition in the 3 months just prior to your effective date of coverage AND 2) the disability begins in the first 12 months after your effective date of coverage. So a pregnancy diagnosed after Dec 1 without a pre-existing condition should be covered.

I got pregnant in September and miscarried in October. I had an appointment to confirm the pregnancy in September and an appointment with ultrasound to confirm the miscarriage in October. No other prenatal visits, since it was so early.

Given that the miscarried pregnancy technically was "diagnosed" in September, do you think they would cover a pregnancy "diagnosed" in December 2016 or in 2017? Does the miscarried pregnancy make a new pregnancy a pre-existing condition?

And would they even KNOW about such a brief pregnancy? (I miscarried at 7 weeks) Do they request past records for pregnancy coverage?

(No idea if this is on the right board - sorry!)
