EASTER eggs!
I went with the old standby, PAAS dye. Was planning to get all the stuff to make the dye with food coloring, but it just didn't happen. I think they still turned out pretty! I'm so excited for a week of egg salad sandwiches every day.

I'm so lame. We bought the kid but didn't get around to doing anything. I figure I can do it later. Baby won't know the difference.
Yours are super pretty! Now I want egg salad.

Ours were done by the kids, so not exactly photo worthy!

@katsupgirl: thanks! ours was the "tie-dye" kit! I guess you could do it with any kit. Tab plus three tablespoons of vinegar so it was very vibrant. The kit came with droppers but we didn't have enough so I used a leftover infant Tylenol dispenser. I bought one too many kits so I think a random egg dyeing session may be in the future also! This is the first time I've dyed eggs in ages. Which is sad because it was a lot more fun than I remembered!
@Mrs. Jacks: I don't believe it! Did they mix up all the dye to make brown sludge? That is what we did as kids lol!

We tried the Pinterest Kool Aid suggestion, it worked great- washed right out of everything, and did a good job on the eggs. The wild card was how C would take to it and he was into it once we asked his colors. I'll have to post photos later, I'm super worn out tonight.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: we didn't let them, but they did scribble with crayon on all the eggs before dying them. Some have full dye coverage, some have less. We just rolled with it!

We didn't dye eggs this year but I made a couple little chickens-in-eggs!

I did Sarah Crowder's cabbage dye for some and then some with food coloring. No pics, because they're in the fridge and I'm too sick to move, but our cabbage eggs look like Sarah's, just a bit blotchier, because I put them all in the same jar. The food coloring ones are bright pink (not enough red left in the bottle!) and turquoise green. My son has been begging to eat them, so mission accomplished! I hope they taste okay--I forgot where I put my white vinegar, so I used the Chardonnay vinegar I found first. They're boozy eggs, I guess.
I love your egg tree!

Does anyone else blow out the yolks to make the eggs hollow? That's how DH did them with his family as a kid.
@Mrs. Sketchbook: I have to check which kits we bought. I saw the tie dye but can't remember if I put it in the cart. Mama brain!
ETA: thanks for the tip about the vinegar!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Cute! Love your photos--especially the first one! Looks like you took them with care. I had some fun dyeing eggs with my 10 month old last night. Not perfect but I figure I have many years to perfect these skills.

My hands are so stained. My toddler didn't want to help! "Toooo messy!"

@autumnlove: those are cool! How did you achieve that effect?

@bisous: I love them! I think I spent more time taking pictures of them than I did decorating them, lol! I have creative sister aunt and mom so the best ones are their work. I just chronicled it!

fun! Haha. I let my DD dye 3 brown eggs. They came out well though!
She wanted blue and red!

I didn't get an after pic because it was really late by the time we were done, but here's a during! We put her to bed after the first 18, we had her Brother's birthday party earlier that day so we were exhausted as was she. We used McCormick food coloring in regular and neon, it's cheaper and I love the way the color pops!

@chopsuey: how long did you leave the eggs in the dye? Ours didn't turn out that good at all

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I used the tie dye kit on a few eggs but they looked too light so I redipped!

@honeybear: thank you! I wan to see pics of your all natural eggs!!

@BabyBoecksMom: I used vinegar+water+food coloring and they probably soaked for 1-2 mins.

You guys are all so fancy! We just did plain eggs. I did paint a couple after the kids were done though

@looch: I did wooden eggs last year. Actually someone did a blog post about them on HB, mine turned out about the same. But I would use her directions because I dunked mine and they soaked up far too much color. I looked for paper mâché eggs this year at the craft store but no luck! I think PB has some but they are already done. But I'm sure they are available in plain form all over the internet. This Easter was sorta thrown together for me so if I couldn't find it locally in a five minute trip it didn't happen for us!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: those look good to me!
I feel like i should just do the regular eggs and eat the cost, because i don't really eat hardboiled eggs, but man, i love the look of the dyed wooden eggs!
GOLD / nectarine / 2884 posts
@looch: I should have clarified! They leaked! At the time he was still gumming stuff and when I gave them to him, I looked around and he had a blue mouth. At like seven months lol! So I rubbed them with vinegar to get the excess dye out.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Those look great! Did you polish them after the vinegar?
honeydew / 7091 posts
@autumnlove: @looch: I did the wooden eggs last year - L loves them!! I painted on the dye instead of dunking like @Mrs. Sketchbook: and they've never left her mouth or hands stained. I sealed them afterwards with a combo of beeswax and olive oil. That was the most annoying part (buying and melting the beeswax), but I want to do a lot more wooden toys, so now I have the mixture ready to go!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Haha, thanks!! My ILs were giving me crazy looks (because I kept rearranging the eggs after the kids put them in), but it did look much prettier this way
nectarine / 2085 posts
@Mrs. Sketchbook: I'm no food photographer, but the color is bright blue. The one thing I'd note is that I accidentally left mine in the cabbage dye a bit longer than Sarah's instructions said to (I think it was closer to 24 hours!), and some of the color seeped into at least one of the eggs. We haven't cracked the others yet, so we'll see!
