Did you give a thank-you gift to the person who hosted your shower? How much money would be appropriate to spend on it?
My BFF is planning a shower for me in my home town (about a 10-hour drive away from where I live now) and has really gone above and beyond - I want to give her something to show how much I appreciate it, but I have no idea what to do!

Well, I haven't had my shower yet, but I have hosted about 5 for various friends, and have NEVER ONCE gotten a hostess gift, just a thank you card for the actual shower gift I bought. The friends who are throwing my shower are both guilty of this, so no, I am not getting them anything, just a heartfelt thank you note.

For my aunt or DH's aunt that both threw me a wedding shower, I sent them flowers afterwards. My SIL's threw me both a wedding and baby shower and I got them necklaces both times. I found a pretty one I thought they would like on etsy for the wedding shower and an initial necklace with all of their kids' initials for my baby shower.

I did a spa gift card for one hostess and then a little gift bag of new home things (matching serving bowl for her china, tea towel, door hanger) for the other hostess who had just bought a house, plus a spa gift card. I just wrote a thank you note for the hostesses of my work shower though.

My mom hosted my baby shower - I gifted her with a coffee mug, chocolates, and a gift card to Starbucks. I maybe spent $50 total.

I bought my friend a dozen cookies from a well-known bakery in my area. It was about $30 and I knew she would enjoy them.

I got a pepper grinder for one friend, it was still on her wedding registry. I got my other friend a hex bowl and platter. All items were from C&B, they box it up for you and tape a gift receipt to the inside. http://m.crateandbarrel.com/hexa-platter/s220384
ETA I spent 30-40 each but if it we just one host I would spend up to $100.

@raspberries: I stole this idea from WeddingBee like five years ago - I did a little package of fancy shower gel from Philosophy with a loofah, some hand cream, and nail polish with a card that said "I hope your next shower is as a great as mine was!"

My mil and good friend hosted my baby shower. I treated mil to a massage and got my friend. Set of throw pillows with covers she wanted off Etsy.
I think in your case a spa day or mani/pedi with dinner afterwards would be nice!

@My Only Sunshine: These are like most of the items I got my host lol I didn't even think to do a card which would have been crazy because she was 7 weeks pregnant at the time.
I spent $100 on gifts for my host. I got her a lot of high end spa things she wouldn't normally spend money on, nail polish, and I think a fun blouse!

My mom and sisters hosted our baby shower right after the holidays, so we purchased Christmas ornaments and personalized them, "Aunt Colleen", etc. We didn't spend much on the ornaments, but they were thrilled because it was the first thing they received that acknowledged their soon-to-be aunt/grandma status.
