I just got back from a check-up, and the NP told me that my anatomy scan showed I have SUA (Single Umbilical Artery). I happened to have already done a slew of genetic testing, that thankfully has all come back with extremely low odds of anything abnormal. She said it's "nothing to worry about," but...seriously now, who doesn't worry when s/he hears something is abnormal about a pregnancy? Anyone have experience with this? I'd love to hear anything I can from all of you lovely ladies. Did you have extra screenings? Anything complicated about the birth/baby's birth weight/etc.? If you feel better walling me with private details, please do so. Thanks a lot.

I was born with a SUA. This was 30 years ago so no ultrasounds were done. My mom has told me that the doctors checked for any heart abnormalities (there were none). They also said I could have 1 kidney or 3, but I have never had any problems and never been checked for that. I turned out just fine!

My coworker had this and her LO was born healthy and is now a thriving, active, beautiful 3 year old. She had several ultrasounds and some extra testing, but it had no effect on her LO!

I do not but I remember a co-worker had this during her pregnancy and the baby girl was just fine!!!!

My friends son has this-he is small for his size but thriving! He did have some health issues and some surgeries to correct things. She saw a specialist

My baby is due in less than 4 weeks and has SUA. I am still nervous about it. I had three scans with a maternal fetal medicine specialist to monitor growth and now I am getting non stress tests once a week since I'm 36 weeks.
Basically, the MFM doctor told me everything would be fine, and anytime I asked a question told me not to google and if you have just the SUA and no other problems your baby is pretty much fine. I never had any further testing done because the dr and my midwife are confident baby is healthy. Write on my wall if you have more questions

one of my good friend's baby had it - all that happened was extra genetic screening and a couple of extra growth ultrasounds. he was born big and happy and vaginally with no complications at all!

I had SUA and it resulted in extra ultrasounds and fetal echocardiograms. Towards the end, it was hard to tell if LO's heart valves were developing on target - some fetal echo's measured them as perfect, others measured them as being behind. My obgyn said that we would have to wait until she was born to see how the valves had developed, and as a result, it was pre-decided that LO would go straight to the NICU so that she could be evaluated by a pediatric cardiologist. She was born perfectly healthy (7lbs, 10oz) and everything turned out fine! She is now a happy and thriving 17month old toddler. I remember being so stressed, but now I can hardly remember some of the details. Hang in there! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to wall me!

@Sugarmammary: so good to hear, thank you!! Ido know my baby has two kidneys because the ultrasound tech pointed that out at my anatomy scan. Hopefully my baby will be as healthy as you?

@blackbird: Thanks for sharing, and hoping his health issues are minimal. I have a call into my OB about this-I would rather be super annoying and have them checking every little thing than spending the next 19 weeks in a panicked state until birth.

one of my good friends had this with her son - she had some additional monitoring and no problems whatsoever. Totally normal development and unremarkable vaginal delivery.

I didn't see this when you first posted but my 10 month old had an sua and is a happy healthy little girl. We had extra ultrasounds during pregnancy but she ended up being a lb bigger than my first. Best wishes for a smooth pregnancy.
