Nay! I have one and it's cute but honestly the A/C and fan have worked better for us. LO could care less about the sleep sheep.

Nay. We have the Giraffe & used it for several months. It will only play for 45 minutes max before cutting off. It was so annoying to have to go in and turn it back on. AND there was always the chance of waking the baby. We bought the Marpac dohm thanks to Mrbee and his recommendation. It has been a lifesaver!

Nay. (or should I say BAA!) We got a high quality sound machine after trying to use sleep sheep for awhile. Sound machine is much better than sleep sheep and stays on all night.
coconut / 8299 posts
Nay! The sound quality isn't that great. I'd recommend getting the Marpac instead. It's awesome!

The sleep sheep worked for us! I know everyone hates how it turns off after 45 min but that was enough time for DD to fall into a deep sleep. I think it was a good sleep cue for her. I don't like the idea of a sound machine running all night so I'm glad she was happy enough to fall asleep to the sheep.

Big Nay. It was given to us as a gift so I felt obligated to use it. Once the batteries died I immediately treated myself to a proper white noise machine that has a non-timed option. (Hated that timer...ugh). That said the sheep is cute and its convenient for on the go...
We bought the Graco one. It was $30 or so has a number of different noises, songs, good volume control, and also a port so you can play your mp3 player through it. It has a built in night light too.
clementine / 916 posts
@banana: I agree about sound quality. I thought the volume was a little low. When we used it I had it out of the sheep so it wasn't as muffled.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
We like ours.... It is annoying that it only stays on for 45 minutes at a time, but we haven't ever noticed the volume being too low. Plus my daughter really likes that it is a stuffed animal.

Nay. Ditto about the 45-minute thing!
We use white noise for all sleep but it doesn't help my LO sleep better it just drowns out environmental noise so that we don't have to worry about waking him up.
grapefruit / 4823 posts
We have the 'gentle giraffe' and it works great for DS For his naps(only time we use it) and he likes to cuddle it sometimes too
grapefruit / 4671 posts
Nay. The 45 minute hing drives me nuts. We recently bought a Marpac to have something on continuous play and that works great for us. The sheep is still cute though.
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
We have both the big one and the little one. Early days it was great, but eventually I wanted something that lasted longer for at home. We still have the little one on her carseat as a dangly toy/ noise maker when we need it.

@lags: Genius! Never thought about taking the sound box
out of the sheep. Btw, doesnt the whale one sound like someone's dying? that one creeps me out. I like the ocean waves but it's too low.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@banana: oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one who was freaked out by that. It makes me feel like I am in an episode of The Walking Dead.
coconut / 8299 posts
@plantains: LOL! Seriously! How a dying person moaning and groaning is a soothing sound is beyond me. And I also
can't listen to the heartbeat one. Maybe cause its on the same sound box as the dying person.

Nay! We use a white-noise track on repeat, an old iPod, and a little speaker that we can travel with. Works like a charm. We had the travel sleep giraffe and it didn't go very loud and yes, there was the annoying 45-min. shut off.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
I like the timer feature! It's just enough to get her in a deep sleep and she isn't dependent on it to stay asleep. I say YAY
pomegranate / 3983 posts
For us it was a Yay. The timer is perfect, just enough time to fall asleep, and I like that he sleeps in silence. Plus it's cute.

nay. had it and hated that it turned off. we have a marpac sound machine (2 of them for the kids) and it works great. in olive's room we also play white noise on an iphone. charlie is really loud and often wakes her up otherwise since their rooms are right next to each other.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
I mentioned it on our May babies thread, but I opted out of the sleep sheep because of the timer. I am really happy with the one we got on well.ca for under $30. It is goes plenty loud to drown out the sound of construction, kids playing, or our dog barking, and you can either plug it in or use batteries. It is small enough to take along for overnight trips as well.
honeydew / 7444 posts
Nay!! I hate that it only goes for 45 minutes. I ended up downloading a rainfall track onto my ipod and used my sound dock instead. It fills the entire room (some may think it's too loud) and blocks out any noise.
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
I'd say YAY -- we've been using ours every single day since LO was born and now whenever she hears the familiar ocean sound, she'll automatically start to look drowsy -- but it's mostly a YAY for a white noise machine, not the sleep sheep specifically. I personally think anything would work
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
YAY - we have both the sheep and the giraffe (one used to be at daycare). We like the sounds on the giraffe more. No dead people growning! (@banana:)
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
nay.....I think the fan is a better white noise machine....
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@banana: haha, too funny! I don't understand any of the sounds either except for ocean so that is what we used. It didn't occur to me to take the sound box out either until my friend mentioned it to me. Duh! We've just taken the box when we travel, too. So easy, LOL.

Yay for us. I agree with some of the PPs, I like that it turns off after 45 minutes because I don't want my son to rely on it exclusively. We use it more of as a cue to go to sleep (one sound for night and a different one for naps) and enough of a sound barrier for while we are still awake and potentially making noise but it isn't a crutch for him to need it.
pear / 1764 posts
I don't have one, but my friend has something similar & loves it! I prefer my regular noise machine
pomegranate / 3388 posts
Our daughter has slept with the sleep sheep every night since she was born. (We use the ocean noise.) We put it on for while she's falling asleep, and then we turn it back on in the night when she wakes up and cries for her binkie. It works great for us, and I actually like that it turns off and doesn't run all night.
persimmon / 1329 posts
Nay, it times out so what's the point. Invest in a good white noise machine instead.
pineapple / 12053 posts
and guess who just took the sheep off her registry! this girl.
kiwi / 515 posts
Haha love the comments about the whale noises! My dd actually only calms to the whale it's the only noise on the sleep sheep that we use. DD falls asleep to it in the car, and it will occasionally follow us into the house for carseat naps. But it is creepy, my Dogs go crazy over the whale noises! One of them Growls at it haha we use a white noise machine and a humidifier for bedtime.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
I rescind my earlier response. It has been chilly out so no fan. Back to using sleep sheep ocean noises at night - start it during bedtime routine and hit it again on way out of room and after night feeding. Not sure if it's doing anything but we are using it.
@birdofafeather: we used it a lot in the early months!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Mrs.M57: LOl! I just blast static am radio if DS is fussing in the car and needs a nap ; )
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@pelikila: interesting that you use different sounds for day and night. We use waves at night....what do you use?
blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts
Get a normal adult white noise machine. The sheep turns off at 45min and without fail my son wakes up.
I built a big library at 4m and read to my baby when he wouldn't nap. Time is really the only thing that got the naps back so embracing the time and doing other relax time activities was my strategy. Now he's too squirmy for reading and sometimes I miss the 4 month regression!
pomegranate / 3008 posts
@winniebee: waves for daytime naps and the heartbeat for nighttime sleep. we have done so from the beginning and it seemed to help my son not resist naps so much since he knew it was a "short sleep" when he heard the waves.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
Nay. We just have a fan and white noise going all night in her room. It works great!
