We had this exact issue when LO was born. One tip the LC gave us was to nurse him in only his diaper. That way he'd not get quite so comfortable so quickly and fall asleep. Often that wasn't enough though and we'd resort to cold, damp washcloths and frequent pressing of the point just below his ear and his jaw joint (not too hard though). It was only about a week to 10 days until it got better. Also if you feel he isn't getting enough to eat you could pump for one or two feeds (if you have a pump available) and feed him that maybe he'll eat more that way.

The LC I spoke to told me to try straightening her arm and to massage her upper arm. For some reason that worked fairly often.
And the nursing in only a diaper was also something we did frequently. 2 weeks is such a sleepy time, and nursing is just so comforting that it's tough for them to stay awake for long, but baby will start being able to stay awake longer soon!

Wet wash cloth on the back? Also I handed him to my husband when he was there and his hold hands always woke him up. Nurses him in only his diaper at first too.

My LO was the queen of sleepy nursing. We would strip her naked so she'd be a little chilly, turn the lights on, and if she was really tired DH would sit next to me and tickle her feet while I nursed.

We had this issue with M at the beginning. We would strip her down, lots of stimulation. Burp her and change her diaper between switching sides.

In the first week we always had to strip DD down and not put a blanket over her. We also try to annoy her a lot - tickling, cold wash cloth on head, etc. Also actual or pretend diaper change.

@FaithFertility: we had that issue, too. The wet washcloth helped.
Also, she's here!!!! I'm so excited for you!!!

Thanks every one!!!! Sometimes they work stripping her, and kinda bugging her!

I.am going to try washcloth if she gets too sleepy!

@FaithFertility: agree with all the other suggestions, also try compressing/massaging your breast while baby is nursing to keep the milk flowing and keep LO interested

My son never got past the whole sleepy nursing thing. He would fall asleep almost instantly so he never got a full feeding. We never nursed him anything but naked and did everything to no avail. We even used to put ice packs against him and he'd sleep through it but would wake up screaming hungry 20 minutes later. After weeks of nursing almost constantly while he failed to gain weight and never stopped screaming from hunger unless he sucked down a bottle we switched to mostly pumped bottles and nursing for comfort. Now at 3.5 months he's so distracted he can barely finish his bottles so I can't imagine how long nursing would take. I'm sharing in case you find yourself like me wondering if I was doing something wrong - some babies are just super sleepy!

LO falling asleep during nursing made things really difficult for the first few weeks. i did diaper only, tickling him on his arm, feet, head, wherever, pressing on his shoulder blade, wet washcloth (which kinda worked but i was not a fan because hey it gets all over me too)...he grew out of it eventually, but MAN. my LC also recommended having someone drip a bottle of water or breast milk or formula on his mouth area during bf sessions but i did that once and it was so messy and difficult, i don't recommend it (plus you need someone with you each time you bf).

Congratulations!!! I would always try tickling his neck when he stopped sucking...it usually bugged him enough to keep going! It gets easier once they are out of the sleepy newborn phase (week 2 or 3).
