I'd like to start potty training my 2.5 year old DD. With my son, we didn't use a small potty and had him use the regular toilet.
Did you use a small potty when potty training? If so, any recommendations on which one?

The Bjorn potty. It's been nice to have both. When we first started we could take the little one with us in the car and now if company is over we can move it out of the bathroom so he doesn't have accidents waiting for someone to get out of the shower.

We started with a small potty and it was brilliant - and then moved to regular toilet with a soft seat and ladder, so she can get up more independently. (And less cleaning!)

We started with a smaller seat reducer on the regular toilet and it's gone fine, so I am glad to have skipped that step and extra cleaning. But I also had a little potty on hand in case she wasn't taking to the big one. I didn't open it so I could return it if we didn't need it.
Also got a potette for travel and out and about.
She was a little more than 2 3/4 when we potty trained.
Eta: also we live in a small condo so we were never far from the bathroom, at all. If you have a bigger house I suppose that might be a concern.

i bought small potties but never used them. we ended up training late (close to 3.5) and went straight to the toilet, which i am happy with and will likely do with our second.

We have a 3-in-1 ubbi that is both a small potty and a seat for the normal potty, plus a step stool. Lo isn't fully potty trained yet but she uses it all three ways

Small Baby Bjorn. Worked like a charm. I started a lot earlier though and I had a girl so not sure if it will matter.

We love both of the Baby Bjorn seats. We also have seat reducers, but my LO goes through phases where she's afraid to climb up on the toilet.
We also keep an Oxo travel potty in each car. She's pretty much terrified of public toilets.
