No. My ex boyfriend that I dated for 7 1/2 years was a smoker. And he constantly lied to me about it, because he knew that if I knew he smoked I would break up with him. He would do all sorts of things to cover it up, but of course I'd always notice. We were long distance so he could get away with a lot though. Finally another lie ended our relationship.

Personally, I couldn't sit there and watch someone slowly kill themselves. His dady had lung cancer and I thought it was so stupid that he would do the same thing to himself. Plus, it's just gross.

@chopsuey119: I agree, it was very hard to not nag, but for me it was stop smoking or we're done. Because after 7 1/2 years.... I realized that neither nagging him or being supportive and buying him patches, etc. wouldn't work. I feel like it's just something that they have to deal with on their own. At least he's honest with you though, that's so important!

Do you guys have a quit line in your state? We have one for Florida, you can call and they'll help you quit smoking.

@chopsuey119: I used to be a case manager and all my clients smoked. We have great resources.... it's just getting people to actually use them that's the problem!

No way-- I would never even date a smoker. Some of my girlfriends smoke socially and it drives me nuts. I wouldn't be able to put up with the stench and the wasting of money.

Nope! Before I started dating the hubs, he smoked. I flat out told him if he smoked it was a deal breaker. He wanted to be with me so bad he stopped smoking. (maybe thats the reason behind the weight gain all these years)

I'm allergic to several popular brands, and the other major brands STILL irritate my respiratory system. Even hookah smoke leaves me headachey. So.... No.

No way. It was a deal breaker for both of us. Practically every one in my family smokes (including my two younger brothers now ) and being around it all my life made me never want to smoke.

@mamamoose I expect the fact that my family smokes will be a big issue once we have a child because my husband and I will not let our child be exposed to second hand smoke.

Nope - I wouldn't even be willing to date a smoker. I find it disgusting.

Both my parents were smokers for 30+ years and both of SO's parents are still smokers. But we didn't wind up being smokers ourselves! Not sure how we managed that but oh well.

I am an ex-smoker who couldn't marry a full-time smoker. My husband's best friend is a full time smoker and now he has a baby. He doesn't smoke in the house but it breaks my heart that he won't quit and someday my husband may not have his friend anymore if he keeps smoking as much as he does.

Without a doubt this would be a dealbreaker for me.

I smoked for 10 years (gasp!). I was a smoker when I met the hubs and was a smoker when we began dating (but I never smoked in front of him). I eventually quit cold turkey because a) it's bad for me, b) I couldn't believe it had been 10 years! and c) I wanted to be healthy before TTC.

I miss it sometimes, I admit, but will never go back to smoking.

No, definitely not. Even if they couldn't smoke in the house, the smell still sticks to them and I wouldn't be able to stand it.

@Mrs. D: I'm in the same boat! Our LO is 8.5months old. He's trying but has moments of weakness. Lets hope both our husbands kick the habit for good this new year!

@chopsuey119: Sounds like a good resolution for both of them! My fingers are crossed, and I'll pretend that the baby's are too.

LOL!!! My hubby has like 4 qualities on my "deal breaker" list that I would have dumped him for. Eh, he's pretty awesome. Obviously I didn't dump him. Also, when TTC he switched to electronic cigarettes and he's never going back.

Never--I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke.

@Mrs. D: Same here. My hubby smokes. I am trying to get him to quit but every time he does he lasts a week then smoking again.

with our second baby on the way, I'm hoping that it will give him a stronger incentive to quit.

@belleoftheballe: I STRONGLY recommend the electronic cigarettes! My hubby likes the lava brand the best (and they're less of a rip off). He can either wean himself off completely, or just lower the nicotine % without stopping the habit of "taking a breather" and physically putting a cigarette to his mouth. I think it's a really great alternative.
