I'm hosting a sprinkle for my friend's second baby this weekend, and it's going to be pretty low-key, but I still wanted to do a small favor, because most of the guests are traveling 2+ hours to come. I need to put together 10-12 and I need them to be very budget friendly. Any great ideas?

They did adorable sugar cookies with royal icing for my shower last weekend and they were a big hit!

I would have loved to have had cookies with royal icing made. I have a project and 2 finals for my summer classes due tomorrow and I had another project and test earlier this week...too much going on and I just didn't plan far enough ahead.

I just threw a sprinkle with a loose "twinkle twinkle little star" theme. I was going to do star cookies as a favor but found a set of star cookie cutters in a cute tin for less than $3 each online. WAY easier/cheaper!
ETA - I just realized the sprinkle is this weekend. I'd still stick to an edible favor - everyone loves those!

@Pancakes: Bakery cookies wrapped in cellophane FTW! You could do a cookie *duo* . . . like chocolate chip and peanut butter . . . definitely a *dynamic duo* in my book!

Make some chocolate cupcakes from a box mix and replace half the water with coffee for a richer flavor. Use storebought frosting or make a really simple cream cheese frosting to frost the tops. Top them with these free printable toppers - either print them yourself on cardstock or have Kinko's do it. You can cut them out by hand or use a 2-inch round punch that I'm sure you can find at Michael's. Tape the toppers them to toothpicks and top the cupcakes.

The grocery store will make up cookies for you with a day's notice! I would just buy flavors, then, chocolate chip or whatever and package them in cellophane and tie them off. Keep it simple!

Have you ever done any canning or preserving? Some homemade jars of jam would be nice. There are tons of cute jam jar decoration ideas on pinterest.
Or how about some living flowers in a little pot?
I made these poppers for a friends wedding shower a few years ago, you can stuff them with little gifts (lip balm, mini nail polish, etc) or candies or anything you'd like.

Non-edible trio: nail polish, eos lip balm, and pocket tissues ( I have some with lips on it)
