@Pepper: molars are the devil's work. Motrin is your friend. R got one molar and then the other three came in together. It was bad. One of them also gave her an ear infection. It lasted a while (maybe 2-3 weeks).

@Pepper: You aren't going to want to hear this, but from the first teething sign to when all 4 finally broke through, 3 months. Molars sucked. She lived on Motrin for a good month.

@Pepper: Every night before bed. Otherwise she woke up crying out in her sleep numerous times.

ETA: I called the phone advice nurse line after hours one night cause she was crying so hard and you could tell in pain. They said Motrin/Advil is the best for teething over Tylenol.

@Pepper: we gave motrin about 3 doses per day. Sometimes i would give him a couple teething tablets at the same time to immediately take the edge off. I also found that giving him the motrin an hour or two before dinner was the best. Lo would refuse to eat if they hurt, which made our evenings awful. I gave it at 4pm, and then did a "dream feed" of another dose before we went to bed at 10. It helped him make it a little longer at night. We had a couple months of night wakings at 4am (right when the meds wore off) i would give him another dose and he would go back to sleep. Usually he was then fine until 4 the next day.

Our situation was pretty extreme (between 12 and 16 months he got 10 teeth, including his canines, many at the same time but for lo, his teeth come in veeeeery slowly) and my doctor also said that if it still seemed bad after the motrin it was okay to occasionally alternate between tylenol and motrin every 4 hours. We only had to do that a few times, but it helped. My lo is generally happy, so i could tell he was isn a lot of pain and i didnt mind using the meds to help him feel better. It was a long 4 months though.

@Mrs. Lion: R's top and bottom canine's are swollen. The top I can see are right there at the gums. But a month like this and nothing. So frustrating. She won't stop "eating" her whole hand.

@Pepper: This thread is just not making me happy! C has been really whiny and cranky for the last day (one day!) and it's already driving me crazy. I am guessing it's just a regular tooth, since she only has 6 so far, but I think it's time to go get some baby Motrin.

Not to threadjack and just complain, but it's also going to be thunderstorming all day and my wimpy dog has already woken her up from her nap twice barking. Stuck inside all day with a cranky whiny baby, barking dog, and increasingly cranky mommy. Yay.

@Foodnerd81: calming treats work for my pup! They're expensive but worth it.

@Pepper: when lo was on the meds he went back to his normal smiley self. I hope you guys have some luck poor babies.

@Pepper: Yeah R stops eating as much when the tooth finally cuts through. The hardest part of the molars is they are so huge, that each tooth is like cutting 2 teeth, cause each tooth has two peaks to cut through.

It definitely lasts a while. We have one mostly out, and the other 3 are just waiting to break through (her gums are swollen and puffy around the new teeth). Same behaviors. Motrin is your friend. Also try giving him frozen foods. DD *loves* frozen peas straight out of the bag - I think they feel really good on her gums. Frozen peach slices or green beans could also work well.
