I am currently on mat leave but I usually teach anywhere from K-2... I LOVE love love it!! Especially passionate about early literacy and 21C practices!

I'm a library media specialist for 4th and 5th grades in a difficult area. I might be ready to move to administration soon...I'm getting tired of the daily grind.

@Happygal: I actually worked in one of the schools they tested that in, though not as a teacher and I didn't know who Angela was when she came into our office. Of course the kids at that school were motivated; it was a charter school with a strict contract and they didn't want to get sent back to their neighborhood school! I think grit plays a part but they're also ignoring other important factors that can determine whether urban students succeed, like support from family and the community.

School admin-taught MS history for 8 years before this!

I teach 2nd grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Love my grade level, exhausted and angry about all the extra crap!

I'm looking for a new teaching job so hopefully I can get in a school that focuses more on teaching and not all the extras! I'm probably being naive but I'm so miserable right now that anywhere sounds better than where I am now!

I taught Spanish for 6 years (the last 5 were at a K-4 school and was pretty much my dream job). This year I teach part-time preschool, but next year I'll mostly be home but with tutoring and contract teaching (Spanish) 2 hours a week for a local preschool.

And I totally can relate to wishing part-time teachers made more money! My DREAM job (while having kids at home) would be 2-3 days a week teaching Elementary School Spanish. I also have my Master's in Administration, so one day I might like to go back and be a principal.

I teach 5th grade, all subjects! I really like the kids and adults that I work with, and I have an awesome group of families this year. Seriously, I couldn't be luckier in that department. I don't even really mind lesson planning and grading; the Type A part of me really likes that planned, organized feeling. What I can't stand is that there's not enough time or resources to do anything well. I constantly feel like I'm being pulled in too many directions, and I'm finding myself burnt out and frustrated with the "system." I'm not sure if I'll go back next year since we're expecting our first LO in November. I kind of like the idea of finding a part time private position. Totally not sure how to go about that, though!

Love seeing all the teacherbees! I teach 11th grade English--I've been part time (60% = 3 periods/day) since I had my twins. I love my school and my students; although sometimes my students can be a bit intense and overwhelmed because they are juggling multiple AP courses and extra-curriculars because they are focused on being the best candidates for universities. My two parent-teacher conferences this year were parents who started out the meeting asking, "Why is my son/daughter doing so bad in your class?" Both kids had an 88%.

I teach HS English...honors and AP.

@Happygal: I want to teach K because I love the little guys and I really want to be a part of the beginning of their (formal) reading journey. My ideal job would be a literacy teacher (teach small groups of struggling students all day) but my district cut that position several years ago. There is just so much responsibility to being a reading specialist and lately a lot of it is centered around testing/data. I always want to be working with kids and I worry that my time with students will be limited in that position. I'll have to see how I'm feeling once I finally finish my degree.

@Happygal: Oh yes, I feel like I never stop moving it's totally exhausting and frustrating at times, but I have so many little moments during the day that remind me why I do it. And yes, we talk about teaching all the time!

@Happygal: I actually haven't started. In my area, jobs aren't posted for the following year until at least mid summer. Nothing like waiting til the last minute, right? (and they wonder why there is a high turnover?!)

I'm still not sure because my principal is SO flexible. While I was pregnant and now with LO (who has been sick and in/out of drs offices and the hospital), she has always had the 'family first' mentality. She gave me 1st period planning so I can be late if we're having a rough morning and I only teach 4 classes instead of 6 (while still being paid for full time).

I don't think I'll have the same elsewhere but I also really want to be closer to LOs daycare in case of emergency (severe allergies) and work in a better school district.

@Mrs. Lovebug: @Mrs Green Grass: Yayyy for HS English! I taught honors and AP last year, everyone thinks those are the best classes but sometimes the parents and drive for perfection can be a struggle all its own.

Woot woot, so excited to join the thread! Some of you ladies helped me with my model class a few months back! Now I am a teacher on special assignment and in August I'll start high school English.

I teach veterinary technology at a local career college. I love it, it is a topic I am passionate about and most of my hours are flexible since I do a large portion of our online and tutoring with one on-site day a week.

@Happygal: I definitely agree with avoiding the school politics- I am so much happier after moving to part-time and avoiding all that drama!

I teach HS Art, mostly digital media and the IB curriculum.
