Okay, so I had an interview for a position last Tuesday (7/12) and I believe it is the best interview I have ever given! I interviewed with the principal, the director of curriculum and instruction, and the other social studies teacher in the building (the subject I interviewed for). They told me that they were finishing interviews last week and would have a decision by this week. Is it a bad sign that I haven't heard anything yet? Should I follow up again? I already sent thank you notes to all three people. What do you think? Any help is appreciated. I feel like I'm in the two week wait! Lol

They didn't give a specific time table. They just said they would have a decision by this week (meaning the week we are currently in).

Yes, I would follow-up with an email. I think you'll look interested instead of pushy.

If they were finishing interviews last week (which could include Friday interviews) I definitely would not expect them to have a decision by Monday! I wouldn't email to check up until at least mid-week at the earliest.

@schubr03: I would wait until the middle of the week to email. In many school districts, 12-month employees have Fridays off in the summer, so that's one reason they may need more time to decide. It's also still very early in the week!

@simplyfelicity: I student taught in a middle school for a semester and I absolutely LOVED it. I never thought I wanted to be there. But I really think it's a great fit for me.

I think it depends on a variety of factors--so I wouldn't worry. I know in my district they always send at least an email within a week or so notifying someone if they did not get a position. A phone call warrants receiving a position. There are so many factors this time of year with moving people into positions that might better suit students, budgeting, etc. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'm going to wait it out until at least Wednesday. I think then I'll send an email to the principal. Still crossing my fingers and hoping for the best! Send some prayers and good thoughts my way!

I would even consider waiting until Friday or so to follow up with a very light email saying, "thank you again, if there is any additional information I can provide, please let me know"

Dh is a principal and has been going through interviews for the last month. If you didn't get it, you usually hear by email, within a week ish. If you're the top candidate, he does reference checks which usually take a bit of time. Sometimes if you're one of the top but not the first choice he'll wait to see if the top candidate accepts or not, before giving the next top candidates an answer. I'd wait til the end of the week, esp if they just finished interviews on Friday. And a thank you email never hurts! Good luck! It's a hard process but hopefully u have an answer soon!

@kodybear: I did send a thank you email to all three of the interviewers the same day as the interview. Hoping to hear something soon. But it is definitely stressful not hearing! Thanks for the advice!

@pachamama: called today, talked with the principal. He said they are still in the process, but no decision has been made. But it doesn't sound to promising the way he was talking to me about it. I think they have another candidate they are interested in and they are waiting to hear from the candidate. Oh well, I guess I just keep applying! Gets frustrating! This is year three of looking for a teaching job!

@schubr03: gahhhh so frustrating. You just want answers! I am a teacher also, it's pretty cutthroat here in NY but lots more opportunities since the recession. It'll work out!!

Update: I have accepted a job and I am working full time as a 6th grade Social Studies/literacy teacher!

@schubr03: yayyyy congrats! Teaching is a wonderful profession. The best advice, so you probably don't need it, is to remember they are children/tweens and will act accordingly. Love them anyway.
