I have a shark that was highly ranked on amazon. I like it. My sister has a Miele - it's fabulous. However I'm not spending $1300 on a vacuum even though I want too

@gotkimchi: yes $350 is about the max I want to spend! We loved our dyson!!!! I'm wondering if anyone has a roomba??

@matador84: I have a roomba and a dyson. Love them both for different reasons. I love the convenience of the roomba and I like that I can set it up to run on its own. However, I do feel like my dyson does a better job with vacuuming though if that makes sense!

We have a Miele, it was more in the $500 range but they have cheaper mid 300 models. We love it. I grew up with canister vaccs and I just can't deal with uprights.
That being said, I love our roomba even more. I am still amazed to come home after the roomba's run and our house is cleaner than we left it. I would 100% buy a roomba and get a cheaper regular vacc if that's all there was in the budget.

I have a Shark, too. It's purple and it costs $130 on amazon--it's the one that the website Sweet Home recommended, you should give this a glance (I LOVE this website)

The only catch with this one is that the canister fills up really fast and you have to empty it more frequently than I wish, but not a deal breaker for me for that price. It does work really well.
I don't think you can get away with having *just* a roomba. it's only for maintenance in between real cleanings. Also if you have a dog you might look into whether they can handle the fur.

@gotkimchi: I know. My dyson picked up sooooo much! And we don't have any pets either. I would be amazed Day to day!

We have a shark navigator lift away that I love for our carpet, but am just ok with for our kitchen floor and bathrooms. We got it on sale at Costco two years ago and haven't had any issues with it. It cleans up cat hair well, has decent attachments, and has a long cord.

I got the dyson animal and I love it!!! Worth every penny. We don't even have pets but I was tired of our old vacuum quitting on every rug.

We have a Shark Navigator and I love it, bought the same vacuum for my MIL and for work.
ETA: 2-1/2 years and going strong.

@matador84: we have a roomba and I honestly don't love it. We have a big dyson and a small stick dyson that I use waaaay more than the roomba. I use the stick vacuum all the time because it's just so easy.

We have an Elecrolux Nimble. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond and it was eligible for the 20% off coupon.

We love our Roomba! I don't vacuum at all anymore. I just set the Roomba to run while I'm at work. It's amazing coming home to a beautifully vacuumed house! We tried the middle range Roomba but returned it quickly for the highest end one. We wanted entire level cleaning which you only get with the most expensive one. I'm glad we upgraded. It's truly foolproof. It never gets stuck or misses spots.
The only downside is the dust bin is pretty small so it rarely finishes the whole level without needing an empty. On Roomba days I come home from work at lunch time to empty it so it can finish in the afternoon.
