I'm thinking about taking my 3-year-old to see The Good Dinosaur for his first movie theatre experience. He can sit through and enjoy an entire movie, but he gets frightened pretty easily. Have you seen this movie with your sensitive LO? How did s/he do?

Haven't seen it yet, but I have heard several warnings from other moms that they wouldn't particularly recommend it for easily frightened little ones.

I wouldn't take him.
There were a lot of scary parts that had my 4.5 yr old crying and clawing at my husband. She ended up sitting on his lap for most of the movie.
My almost 3 yo son loved it, but he loves action and doesn't scare easily.I found the short movie right before the good dinosaur to be really frightening. The little boy sitting in front of us (3-4yo) started crying during the short and probably told his dad "I go home!!" a dozen times during the 2ish hours we were there.

There were lots of sad/scary parts. My son doesn't scare easily but he didn't like it.

Yeah, my almost 4 year old nephew sat in my sisters lap almost the whole time, he was scared. My sister said she teared up at one part!

We really wanted to take D, and he wants to see it (we saw the preview when we took him to Peanuts), but it looks pretty intense, and he scares easily. He started to cry during the preview for Kung Fu Panda 3 in the theater. And Common Sense Media review says it has several scary scenes in it. We'll probably wait for it to come out On Demand or in RedBox.

ETA: The Peanuts Movie was not scary at all, and D really enjoyed the scenes with Snoopy fighting the Red Baron.

There were definitely some sad & scary parts. I think a lot of it went over LO's head because she is only 2 (25 months) but she did get a little scared a few times. Not too bad (she sat in her own seat the whole time with no issue) but a little girl behind us did start crying.
LO has seen Disney movies like Finding Nemo, The Little Mermaid, and 101 Dalmatians which I think are scarier - but being in the theater can amplify it especially for a sensitive LO.

It's rated PG and from what I have read, it's much better suited for an older child (6-7). I do a lot of reading about movies because my lo is very sensitive. I definitely wouldn't take her to it.

I wouldn't take him. LO got a little scared. Some of the things went over her head but maybe see the Peanuts movie instead.
@chopsuey: agreed. That was scary and LO didn't like it. -
I took my 3.5 son and he's easily scared and sensitive and he was pretty upset at certain parts and yelled out "I want to go home!" a few times. When it was over, he said he enjoyed the movie but it was scary. "I like the movie, mama, but I got a little scared". I might save it for when you can watch it at home so you can turn it off if it gets too scary.

My LO doesn't scare easily at all and liked the movie. But there were definitely scary parts so if your LO scares easily, I would do the Peanuts movie instead of you really want to see a movie right now.

My 3.5 is scared of everything but she loved this movie and sat through it, no problems. (And this is the girl who can't watch tangled because the mom is too scary... And can only watch half of frozen). There were a few moments that I thought might be too scary for her but she did fine!
The 2 minute short right before the movie though - that was scary and creepy. :T I wish they wouldn't have shown it. I know if we were at home she would have prob cried.

I had heard some of the same things as previous posters. For those reasons I opted not to take my sensitive 3 year old to it for her first movie. We saw the Peanuts Charlie Brown movie instead and it was a fantastic first movie! It's rated G and very appropriate for a 3 year old. It was very cute and she had an awesome time

We watched the preview at California Adventure (theater setting but about 10 mins long, and they add some features like wind, etc). Anyway, based on that, I'd wait. DD is almost 3.5 and said it was scaryyyy
