@gotkimchi: thanks! I have a text chain with my sister and friend inspiring each other. We all battle clutter so it’s really encouraging. But much of mine has been so overdue.

Still haven’t touch my corner of miscellaneous crap that doesn’t have a home though.

We are continuing to tackle the garage. We've made huge strides. The kids are enjoying the extra play space. My daughter broke out her tap shoes (that I had planned to donate) and tap danced all over the garage. That made me feel good since we could barely set foot in it at Christmas (that level of mess was short term and directly related to Christmas but it's been bad for a while).

We had some rough spots. DD noticed some of her toys are gone. She is heartbroken over the Fisher Price Elefun toy being gone. She's almost 6 and never played with it but she's still crying for it. Her birthday is in a month and I told her if that's the one thing she wants for her birthday we could get another then. I'm planning on coming up with better options.

I can't believe the amount of BOBs on all the sale sites now. Everyone must be KonMarie-ing.
Double BOBs for $50. We gave ours to our neighbor. We still have the single posted but I don't want to sell it for $30. So we're holding on to it for now stored to see if we really don't come up with a need for it. If not I'll give it away in a few months.

@Corduroy: garage tap dancing sounds awesome! Great idea. My kids haven’t noticed anything we’ve gotten rid of, but my 5 year old gets upset at the idea of donating their old toys. I mentioned I was donating the old play mat, like forna newborn with the dangly toys above. She almost started crying about it. She said I should only donate their old clothes that don’t fit but they can still play with ALL the toys. Luckily she hasn’t really noticed things missing, but I’m a little concerned about the selfish attitude. She also once refused to donate boxes of Mac and cheese that I had bought for the food cupboard. I even bought a different brand than they usually eat at home and she still almost cried.

Any updates? I’ve been going through kitchen drawers, our junk drawers, my closet which was a catch all for random junk + paperwork. Took a lot to goodwill and a lot in the garbage. Feels like I haven’t made a dent lol! My kids have trouble getting rid of toys as well so I pull out what I deem fit and donate without them knowing if possible. It’s generally the least played with stuff so they haven’t noticed so far. Though my 5yo has an excellent memory so I’m sure this won’t last long. I also did my linen closet which now looks beautiful but no one sees. I think I’m going to start really focusing on visible areas and trying to get those in tip top shape

@gotkimchi: I hit a wall because i got the easy spots done, then played catch up on the day to day things I was neglecting, and I haven’t had the energy or push to get to the hard spots- like my corner desk area in my bedroom that has all sorts of crap piled on top of a box that I haven’t unpacked from when we moved 2 years ago. Hoping to get a start on it today.

@Foodnerd81: don’t feel bad, I had a laundry basket of random papers from when we sold our house in 2015 I just tackled that the other day. Idk why I do stuff like that! I really need to deal with things as they come in and not let stuff sit around

I got rid of so much junk today - I am so proud of myself! There's a ton more junk to sort out, but I'm celebrating small victories. I really want to simplify our lives in 2019 and decluttering the house is a big part of it.

I’m embarrassed to even post my before, but I finally tackled my shameful corner of my bedroom/ desk area. There was a box in the corner that had never been unpacked from the move two years ago, the toy hospital (stuffed animals with holes that need sewing), one drawer dedicated to receipts from Christmas 2017... and I admit I moved a basket of things that below in the bathroom to the bathroom but haven’t actually put them away yet. And the bin on the desk now contained craft and art supplies that will be part of the greater reorg/ decluttering of those things. But still! Quite a difference! And I sewed up the stuffed animals so they can be played with again.

I avoided watching the show u til last night (read half of the book a few years ago). And then I freaking folded my underwear today! And I kind of enjoyed it. I’ve been purging for years it feels like but it really isn’t getting easier to let things go.

My awful area is that office and I feel like I need a week to myself to even start. But really I need to figure out a way to do a half hour or house a day to make it realistic.
