As in, actually getting my 14 month old clean in a standup shower.

My ambitious husband tried to fix something in the shower/tub, and now can't get it back together again. While he waits for a part (or divine intervention) we are bathing in the stand up shower in the guest bath, which is fine for us but challenging with a one year old. I put her tiny blow up pool in there which worked ok but took forever to fill and had some issues. I feel it would b easier to just stand in the shower with her but I've only rinsed her that way, never washed hair or anything.

We have a handheld showerhead that makes rinsing off DS super easy. He loves the shower - he thinks it's like a water park lol

I haven't tried it, but I am fairly certain L would HATE it. I guess showering a toddler alone might be different, but I don't understand the logistics of showering *with* a toddler - she would get sprayed in the face all the time! And, I like my water HOT, she would definitely get scalded.

We also have a detachable shower head. I actually don't shower with my LO but she would love if I did, because when she has a bath, her favorite activity is the end when I shower her off with the hand held.

I find it easier to prop my knee up on the ledge so that L has a place to sit. He hates the shower though... good luck!

We shower with LO (because like you my husband was trying to FIX our tub and broken it more- we are still waiting on it to be fixed) He walks right in and we have some toys on the floor (duck, squirt things, cups) and he plays while we shower- then when we finish I soap him up and put him under the shower head. (I use a baby washcloth a lot of times too) he loves the shower!!

@cheert16: glad I'm not the only one with a "handy" husband- but not happy to hear yours is still broken!

I have showered with her before but always quick rinses and she wasn't a fan. No detachable shower head and the one in their sprays everywhere. I'm tempted to fill up the tub from the bathroom sink with buckets.

I was hoping there was son trick I just didn't know about.

@Foodnerd81: the easiest way is for both you and DH to get in there with LO. One holds LO, one scrubs with a washcloth and does hair with the one holding doing rinses while holding LO. It is fast and not perfect but it gets then clean! We sometimes do this on vacation when the tub is not suitable for a bath. Make sure you have the towel ready and all LOs stuff so it can go fast.

@MamaCate: that does sound easiest but the shower is a small square stall type. Not really conducive to two people.

At that age, I let her sit on the floor of the shower and try to keep her as much out of the spray as possible (against the wall the shower head is on - is the best bet for us). I would bathe her fully including her hair and then use a large cup (like a 32 oz one) held right against the shower head for quickest filling up to rinse her hair. Rinsing her hair was always our biggest challenge at that age.

I'd also give her a couple of her bath toys to play with. And honestly, a scrubbing brush to "clean" the shower walls is her favorite thing to do in the shower.

We've showered regularly together since he was an infant. He almost never takes a bath anymore. At 2.5 he just plays on the floor, but around around 14 months, I believe we still kept the hard baby bathtub in there to keep him safe since he wasn't super sturdy on his feet. If she won't stay in the tub, then just throw a non slip rug in there and let her play. It's so much easier than bathing in a tub, in my opinion.

@BananaPancakes: I didn't even think of the non stick mat- good call! She won't stay in the baby tub but might play on the mat. The floor is small tiles so not really slippery but hard so the mat should help.

I should point out I don't need to get me clean, just her. I can shower during naps or whatever.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, if she won't stay in the tub, then don't even bother. It's not safe for her to be climbing in and out. My husband or I actually do shower ourselves with him, and he loves to bring cars and cups to sit on the floor and play with. Also, shaving cream will entertain him the entire time. I spray some on the wall and let him go to town. My husband has always been comfortable picking him up and rinsing him that way, but I don't feel like I can hold him well enough for that. I typically just bring a large cup and rinse him wherever he's sitting on the floor.

hand held shower heads.

we do not have a bath tub and just bathe dd in a shower stall. She loves it. We get her wet by having her run around under the water, soap her up and then have her rinse off and she then plays in the shower.

I usually use the hand held shower head to wash her bottom and va-jay, but when we are at the in laws they dont have a hand held so I use a cup to rise off those areas.
