Has anyone done a Color Run? Would you bring a 2 year old to it?
There is on on LO's 2nd birthday, and I really want to do it with him! But would be insanely overwhelming and scary for him?

I did the color run last year, and there were sooo many children in strollers! They all had a blast!

@MrsBrewer: oh really?? that makes me happy! Was the color run fun? Were a lot of people actually running it?

I have heard that the dust is really bad for your lungs.
I wouldn't do it, let alone let my toddler do it. It looks really fun though.

@sunny: It's just cornstarch, so it seems like as long as you're not having it thrown directly into your mouth, I would think breathing it in would be fine? Maybe I could do a weather shield over LO's stroller though to help shield him.

@hilsy85: It was so much fun! The energy there is amazing! At the one I was at, I would say the running and walking was about 50/50. There were people of all different fitness levels there.
I will agree with @sunny: and say that the dust was pretty hard to breathe in though. But to counter that I saw a ton of people with bandannas over their face when they went through the dust. I don't though, I don't think I would use that as a reason not to do the run though, personally!

I think @lemondrop: did a color run with her toddler!

@hilsy85: Ah ok. I would still probably keep the LOs as covered up as much as they'll tolerate. Rain shield and maybe a bandana over the mouth and sunglasses or goggles if he'll wear them.

@Smurfette: I was thinking I would get a cheapie umbrella stroller just for this. Or I could use our UB vista, since the seat and hood can come off to be cleaned.
@MrsBrewer: ah ok, so that makes me think more about definitely using a stroller cover or maybe not even bringing LO

@sunny: yeahhh bandana and goggles probably wouldn't happen but he's pretty good with the rain shield.
@grizz: have you done it? Was it fun? Would you do it with C?
@looch: RIGHT?! It's been on my bucket list for a while!

@hilsy85: well if you can wash yours then go for it.

@hilsy85: I haven't done it, but I would! They haven't come back to our city yet. My friends who did it just pulled down the weather shield on their strollers when they went through the color stations. Their LOs loved it

@Smurfette: I would think if it's just colored cornstarch, it should just come out with a good soak and some detergent?

@grizz: ok! That's making me feel better! So the color stations aren't the whole race, right? So he could have the shield up most of the time and just down when we're getting the color thrown?

@hilsy85: I have a friend that have done a couple but she has never mentioned her clothes or shoes didn't come clean.

@hilsy85: I wore a white undershirt that I can NOT get clean, even with bleach. Everything else came clean though - even the special Color Run shirt that I WANTED to stay stained
I would totally bring L if I ever did it again. People will hopefully be good about not throwing the powder at your LOs mouth, so some small protection measures will probably be sufficient. And make sure you bring lots of water in case he gets too much in his mouth.
There are 5 color stations - one at each Kilometer, so you only have to watch out those 5 times. And you each get a packet of color when you sign in that you get to throw at each other!

@swurlygurl: awesome! I think if he's in the stroller during the color stations, we should be good, and he can either ride or maybe walk in between. Was it crazy crowded to the point where you wouldn't feel ok with a toddler walking and holding your hand?

I've done it and there were so many strollers! The color washes out of clothes really easily but I wasn't able to get it out of my shoes. I know I've come across a blog somewhere where the person was able to cover the stroller in garbage bags or something and then the child sat on top of them, that way the kid could get color too. Also, depending on how it is set up if you stay in the middle of the road/track you don't get doused in as much color.

@hilsy85: Only at the beginning, approximately through the first kilometer. After you get through the first station the crowds start thinning out and it's not bad at all

@KT326: ah ok, thanks for the tips!
@swurlygurl: ok cool, I'm sure LO will be itching to get out of his stroller at some point.
papaya / 10473 posts
@hilsy85: You could totally do that! They are dispersed pretty well like @swurlygurl: mentioned!

I ran one and the color came out of everything, including my white shirt.

@rahlyrah: ah ok. Well, I"ll let you know how our experience goes and give you any tips I think of

@hilsy85: Thank you! I did it when I was pregnant and it was a blast. I'm sure L will love it!

I did a color run this year, and I wouldn't do it with a kid who can't reliably hold their breath. Some of it is fine, but people throw their own color, and some of the throwers aren't very good, and you kind of just get pelted in the face. I'm allergic to corn (and thus corn starch), so I worked hard to keep it out of my mouth. And it definitely took effort.
I actually think it would totally terrify my toddler, but if you are noticing that, you could go around the big color things and/or warn the people when you're going through. I assume they'd be more careful when a toddler goes through.
And all my stuff came clean (took 5-6 washes for my shirt, and just normal wear for my shoes).
