D1 had a severe tongue-tie and D2 had a tongue-tie AND a lip-tie.

1. Both kids yelped and screamed/cried for 5 seconds. Immediately after the release, they get you to breastfeed on the stop to comfort and stop the bleeding (bleeding is very minor...just a few drops).
2. I used nothing for pain because once we were out of there, the babies were fine!
3. It worked wonders. Night and day difference.

Not much pain afterward at all, lasted less than a week. She was older, 6 months, so we used baby Advil. She had a posterior tongue tie and upper lip tie released with laser, and she was immediately a COMPLETELY different child. Her reflux vanished, she finally slept well without being held, gained and grew faster, ate in a relaxed state instead of all tensed up, the colic stopped, gas was gone. I only regret we didn't know until she was 6 months old, because I wish we could have had it corrected sooner. It's so very worth it.

Are you doing laser or clipping? Is it an anterior or posterior tie? A couple of tips: do stretches afterward for a week or two, to avoid complete re attachment. Also, if it's a posterior tie, it's almost never seen without an upper lip tie as well, so have both checked and corrected if necessary, because only doing one won't solve the problem completely.

N had his severe tongue tie released at 10 days old. They clamped it and then clipped it with scissors. He cried for a minute then he was done. He still didn't latch well but he did stop sucking so much air. We also went back and had his lip released when he was 4 months old. I wish we would have done it sooner. He was so much happier once both were released.

E had a severe lip and tongue tie that were released at 14 days old. It helped so much and the pain was minimal if at all. I would do it again ( and likely will need to with future kids).

We had LOs clipped by laser at 5.5 weeks. She had a posterior tongue tie and lip tie which is a bit more difficult than a straightforward anterior tie (thicker tissue so prob more painful too). She was cranky the day of and refused to eat on and off for the following few days. We gave her Tylenol. We got it done to help with breastfeeding and it did help a little but not a lot. Honestly for us.. Having it done is probably my biggest parenting regret so far because I thought it was pretty traumatic both during and after and ultimately breastfeeding failed anyways. That being said if your lo can't take a bottle properly that is a bigger problem than we were trying to fix with breastfeeding.

We had DD's clipped at about 5 weeks. The doctor spent like an hour talking to us and examining DD beforehand, but the procedure itself was only a few seconds. She breastfed immediately afterward and was mainly fine. We did give her about a half-dose of baby Tylenol before we did the stretches for the first few days, until the skin healed over. It took about two weeks to really improve her latch, but she was less gassy and I was in less pain within a day or two.

@Mrs. Pinata: our pediatrician was the same- said no tongue tie, and that the upper lip tie shouldn't affect anything. He also noted he doesn't truthfully know much about the subject, encouraged us to seek a second opinion, and was very receptive to hearing all about the procedure, once we had it done. I'm so, so glad we went ahead and did it.

It took N a little while to relearn to eat. It was probably about one week. After the week he was just fine. Same thing for E. They just have to relearn. Hope your lo gets better soon.
