Hi all! Had an early US today with my RE at 4w5d and we saw two sacs (we knew it was a good possibility with our iui). However the doctor said it's too early to say it's twins for sure. Just wondering if any other multiple mommas had a similar experience and how it turned out for you?

I don't want to be a downer, but he probably wouldn't confirm because of the chances of a vanishing twin. I had a vanishing twin after seeing two heartbeats.

We didn't have an ultrasound that early, but we found out we were having twins at my 6 week ultrasound with my RE. There were two sacs, two fetal poles, and two heartbeats. When's your next ultrasound? Also have you had your hCG tested? It's definitely not a guarantee, but often hCG levels are higher with multiples. Mine were really high!

My memory is kinda fuzzy but I think your dr will want to see if there are a fetal pole in each sac. Then a few weeks later, check heart beats.

@Mrs. Pickle: thank you! Our doctor did tell us not to be surprised if there was only one next ultrasound. Kind of sad about it really.
@Colee: my next ultrasound is two weeks from today. My initial beta at 11dpo was 84, 13 dpo 228, then 17 dpo 1130. Quite a bit higher than my last pregnancy.
@bluestriped bee: yeah, I believe that's what he's waiting on which we should see in two weeks. It's just frustrating not really knowing what's happening.

At my first US after IVF (I want to say it was just over 6 weeks), we saw two sacs and two heartbeats, but my RE still said so much can happen with twins in the first few weeks and we'd check again at the next US. So we proceeded as "cautiously optimistic" until 2 weeks later when we confirmed that they were both still growing. Congrats on your pregnancy! I will keep my fingers crossed for your two sacs!

At five weeks and change after ivf, we transferred two, they would only confirm one and said there was a possibility of two. Didn't confirm two until next us,but even then, they kept saying one was smaller or measuring behind.... but then, it started catching up and by the end of it, my kids came out both 6 5.

@MrsTal: After bleeding (gushing) and cramps at 5+ weeks I had an u/s that showed what looked like a sac breaking down and then one sac "with something there" that turned out to be my son. It's probably just very early to confirm.

@MrsTal: I think our first was around 6 weeks when we confirmed twins. I read a bunch on vanishing twins and was so nervous we would lose one! @bluestriped bee: me too!

@Mrstal I just had an ultrasound last night at 6wks. The ultrasound showed two sacs, and two heats beats. My midwife is saying "twins" but also cautioning us that it is early. It is very hard to not get too excited. This is coming as quite a surprise. Twins do not run in my family! I hope everything works out for you.

@MrsTal: @Run2shore: Congratulations to the new twin mamas! My OB saw two sacs at 6/7 weeks and also cautioned us that there is a real possibility of one or both vanishing. It all worked out though and they are now 11 weeks old.

We had our first ultrasound at 8 weeks and they could confirm then that it was twins. Honestly, I'm not sure what all they look for to confirm or not, but it make sense to me that being so early, he might just want to be cautious for another couple weeks until they can see more development.
Fingers crossed for two healthy, precious babies! It is a crazy, fun ride.
